Klobuchar kills it

The star of the show at Wednesday night's Washington Press Club Foundation Congressional Dinner? Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who pulled no punches when it came to her comic monologue. A sample of her material:
-Like Garrison Keillor would say, in Minnesota "all the recounts are above average."
-"John Edwards is still talking about the 'two Americas,' which turned out to be the best pickup line of all time."
-She noted that she had raised $17,000 for her Senate race from ex-boyfriends. "Speaker Pelosi, I may have the record in the Senate. I know in the House that record is held by Barney Frank."
Next up was Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who had a tough act to follow. Nevertheless, he gamely gave it a shot, filling in for House Republican Whip Eric Cantor:
-"I would be remiss if I didn't thank Tom Daschle for providing tonight's limo service."
-He said he wasn't sure Barack Obama was the messiah until he named Joe Biden his vice presidential running mate. "As Scripture says, the messiah is supposed to ride into town with an ass underneath him."
McCarthy even made light of his relatively light applause compared to Klobuchar: "When the Democrats put in hundreds of millions in the stimulus bill to help fight STDs, I knew I'd never get the clap in here."
