Modine: McCain was a bad P.O.W.!

Mod Squad

We ran into actor Matthew Modine (remember "Full Metal Jacket"?!?) at Denver's La Rumba restaurant and, while the Obama supporter had plenty to say about John McCain's policies, he also had plenty of critiques of McCain's military service -- a topic that almost no one dares denounce.

"I mean, he got shot down three times!" said Modine, taking on one of McCain's most lauded personal accomplishments. "That's not success!" While on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, McCain was shot down and held as a prisoner of war. When McCain's father was named commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, the future Arizona senator was offered an early release, but rejected it because his captors would not also released his fellow American P.O.W.s.

That kind of loyalty has earned McCain endless accolades, but Modine thinks that McCain's rejection of the release offer is yet another example of McCain's shortcomings. "And he wasn't even a good prisoner of war," said Modine. "He should have left as soon as he could. That's what you're supposed to do as a prisoner of war: Leave when you can. It defeats the enemy. It makes them look bad and it weakens them."

Matthew Modine's comments demonstrate the out-of-touch and skewed mentality of those who fail to acknowledge or are incapable of seeing the character and integrity that embraces John McCain. Actions speak louder than words and despite Modine's outlandish comment, "That's not success," McCain demonstrated he was not a coward and was selfless in terms of respect and concern for his fellow P.O.W.s. What Modine considers a shortcoming should be more reflected on himself than on McCain. What planet is Modine living on?

Modine is apparently ignorant of the Code of Miliary Justice that precludes taking parole or special favors from the enemy. But what can you expect from some actor who hasn't been in combat and can sit on his rump and criticize those who have?

Ahh, the opinion of a leftist hollywood actor... only a sub 100 club member would consider it significant.

I apologize for my ignorant statements. I must say, I had no idea my comments would have been taken this seriously. I am also shocked that anyone would even know who I am. Again I am sorry for my comment and will consider voting for John McCain the November. Mathew Modine

Hollwood has a soft spot for "Event Planners" I'm more qualified than Obama to be President. Being CEO of 2 companies, I have 12 more years of Executive experience than Obama and my Canadian citizenship is closer to American than a Muslim Kenyan. Never trust an actor. He's acting.

I'm saddened to see that Mr. Modine's syphilis has taken a turn for the worse. It's only a matter of time now. :( We'll miss you, Pvt. Joker.
