Revolt is brewing among AARP members against AARP leadership

By: Mark Tapscott

Last week I wrote in this space that Obamacare could be the death of AARP because it would expose to the rank-and-file of the 40 million member seniors group - most of whom oppose Obamacare - how their Washington leaders have been taking them for a ride for many years.

The AARP leadership scoffed at that suggestion, but check out the video of a Dallas AARP meeting in this post by Moe Lane at Red State. The leadership wanted to give the members the usual dog-and-pony show in favor of government-run health care, but the members weren't buying it. So the leaders got up and left. Evidently, you either sit down, shut up and listen to your leaders in AARP, or they abandon you.

If it happened in Dallas, you can be certain that similar scenes are taking place at other AARP meetings all over the country.

Isn't it strange that someone involved with the AARP felt it necessary to tell you how wrong you were in last week's op ed? Think maybe you got em runnin' scared?

I will NOT join AARP..they support the libs and therefore think differently than I do...Never will they get a dime from me...I toss all thier mail in the trash unopened....till they can be non politcal in thier issues they will not get a nod from me.

AARP is a classic example of an organization that has been taken over by liberal activists. This is one of the tools and techniques of leftists all over the world. Members don't even realize that their interests have been subordinated to the liberal agenda.

Many unions have fallen under the same type of leadership. Ronald Reagan matured politically battling liberal attempts to take over the Screen Actor's Guild, so he was very aware of this.

Socialized medicine is not what seniors want, but it is the goal of ultra-liberals everywhere. AARP then becomes just another tool that they will use.

AARP is a business that masquerades as non profit organization. What AARP does is to MAKE PROFIT from ignorant, uninformed members.
AARP is a scam.

No, send it back to them in the postage paid envelope! Infinitely satisfying!

I have been a loyal member of AARP for several years in succession and several other years intermittantly. I am ashamed for AARP because of allowing officials to have office when they are cornic liars and yellow dog democrats. In the past AARP was really looking out for us and not for political favors and gains. I can see now that renewing my membership was in support of the liberal empire and a bad mistake. SHAME ON AARP FOR ALLOWING THE ORGINAZITION TO BE SOLD OUT SO CHEAPLY.

I keep the plastic demo membership cards. Trim down the corners on one end, and they make handy shoehorns.

Aug 6, 2009

The AARP supporting this health bill should not surprise anyone. I remind you that some 24 hours before Hillary's 90's health care plan came up for a vote the AARP came our for supporting it although their mnembers were opposed. I was a member then and cancelled my membership. I recall that AARP in Washington was impossible to call and I had to finally call their Chicago office where the lady told me their phone lines were melting from angry members. AARP is a liberal organization that is in no way what its founder visualized.

If another organization for us fogies does the same and is LESS political I will change to them, in a heart-beat!

It was exposed in 2005 that the AARP is actually a front organization for the United Groups of insurance companies. In turn, the United Groups of insurance companies is owned and controled by Pfizer, Inc.. Beginniong to see the pattern of deception these corporations have used to bilk good heart3ed citizens out of their hard earned cash? It angers me daily that folks who work as journalists are more concerned about their paycheck than they are on reporting the TRUTH.
Respectfully submitted,

The problem with these idiots running AARP and the current government is that they forget that the boomers are the best and last educated Americans in this country. We tore them down in the 60's and 70's... it's time to do it again!

AARP has been a scam since it's inception. It has never been an advocacy group for seniors. It was founded to sell insurance to seniors, and that remains it's main purpose. Liberal or conservative, joining is a bad idea.

AARP is not a membership-run group. It is owned by a corporation, and you not really a member, but a subscriber. They use your clout to get their way in Washington for their big corporate owners.

A scam by any definition.

AARP is on a political mission to the detriment of its members. I want nothing more to do with this organization. It might as well register as a lobbyist for the Obama care plan.

are you nuts?

Aug 9, 2009

Do all of you not accept Medicare benefits and social security? Because you receive everything you put in plus interest in the first 2 1/2 years of retirement, after that YOU are reaping the benefits of socialized medicine, and liberal politics.

Aug 9, 2009

I believe AARP is the largest and most influential lobbying group in the shameless city of Washington, D.C.

And to "Are you nuts": I don't collect anything from anyone except the remains of my paycheck every week. And I will gladly volunteer to reject Social Security and Medicare benefits when my time comes in a few years. This country is over $40 trillion in debt and these two expenditures are responsible for most of that debt. I love keeping active and working. Liberal politics is like a swarm of locusts - eventually consuming everything in it's path. I won't be a part of it.

About 20 years, the management of the AARP got caught being paid override commissions on every Colonial Pen policies sold to the members.

Management of the AARP is left wing, greedy and only intersted in screwing members.

With the democrats everything is political and therefore open to infiltration. Any club, association or organization is fair game, in the hope of enlisting the membership and more importantly its leadership into the cause. As unfortunate as it is, the ideology won't allow the politics to remain at arms -length, everything has to be converted to the cause.

PO'd boomer

Aug 10, 2009

I wouldn't join AARP for any reason in the world. I have been tracking them for years and they are as socialist as it gets. I'm 63 and I don't need another form of big brother telling me what to think! The politicians have stirred up the wrong group of people. It was the boomers and took down the status quo in the 60's and 70's. I guess they need to see what a force we are when they start calling us nazi's, brown shirts, and unAmericans. It's the government and the socialists taking over this country (Obama, et. al.) that you will find are the true facists. Just wait and see... in fact you don't even have to wait, turn on Chris Matthews as he spews his hatred for the American public, or any left-leaning media outlet. We have been suckered folks, it's time to take back our country now! FIRE THEM ALL IMMEDIATELY!

I personally had everyone in my family rip up their AARP card and mail it back to AARP. No one would even pay for the stamp so they all ended up in the garbage. The seniors have spoken. AARP will slowly be dismantled as an internal struggle brews. They messed up bad, so bad that they can't fix this. It's like cheating on your wife. You can't undo that. This shows that AARP was never as sincere as we thought them to be. I would like to tell everyone to pray for the execs at AARP for their mistakes, but we need all the prayers we can get for our seniors if this universal health care goes through. Save your prayers for the ones who truly need it. Whatever religion you may be. I'm only 27 years old. I care about my seniors, unlike these young execs pushing pencils and making policies from the marble bathroom stall on their $500 blackberry's. WAKE UP AMERICA, WE FIGHT NOW, OR WE DON'T FIGHT AT ALL. WE MUST FIGHT WHILE WE STILL CAN.

I cancelled my membership and the rep said, "I assume this is because of the health reform bill". I assured her that it was. She said about 90% of her calls were cancellations and that customer service was putting in lots of overtime. Wish they would release the number of members they have lost in the last 3 weeks.

Just cancelled my membership to AARP and feel so good about it. They are apparently a political lobby for the democrat party and not for senior adults. Their recent tv commercial involving an ambulance and disruptive automobile drivers make all of us opposed to this government healthcare bill look like delinquents. I have read portions of the bill and know that frightening possibilities are incorporated in this legislation!

This is not so much a policy discussion on health care reform, as it is a discussion of AARP's co-opted leadership. If the AARP spends an incredible amount thwarting their members' strong feelings against health care reform, shame on them. Even if the members were wrong, they should stand to answer for their betrayal of the feelings of the members.

I, too, will send all return mail with postage-paid so that the AARP will pay the postage. I have told them how I feel and get a "form letter" response. They can keep the few liberal members they will have left. I for one will have nothing to do with this liberal organization.

I cannot believe AARP is endorsing health care even before they understand what is in it. We need reform, but we don't need government run health care. The public option will ruin our options for real health choices. They say illegals won't be covered, but they don't say that hospitals cannot turn them away. Who do they think pays for what is given away free?
I am dropping my membership. The only way associations understand what their members think is to write a note explaining why you are dropping your membership. Burning your card does nothing because they don't know why you did it. It is time for an association that truly represents seniors.

Ken

Nov 4, 2009

Henry........you are a fool if you think socialized medicine favors seniors. In every country that adopted socialized medicine, seniors lost services every time funding issues occured. In England, you can't get open-heart surgery, or even a stint after age 59......they consider it part of the death process. This health bill contains a formula using age, cost, etc., to determine if treatment can be approved. If it exceeds the established ceiling, the doctor will be fined if he provides the treatment. Part of the funding for this bill will come from a 500B cut in Medicare....that should tell you something. This bill will put seniors on a slab of ice and float them out to sea when they require expensive treatment. This bill favors dead-beats, not seniors.

Ken

Nov 4, 2009

Henry...you are a typical liberal. You never discuss the issues, you just call everyone stupid that doesn't agree with your socialist leadership. When a person calls others stupid, it usually means they don't understand the issues at hand. They just blindly follow the liberal agenda. I'll think for myself, thank you.

The democrats got smeared in Va and NJ this week, but they still won't listen to the people reference health care because they feel that they know what's best for you better than you do. Pelosi plans to call for a vote on health care this weekend...what a moron!!! All social programs are designed to reward the irresponsible while penalizing the responsible. For example, if the AVERAGE American could put the same amount into an IRA as they pay into social security, they would be a millionaire at 65 in lieu of receiving 1K/mo....cat food money. Wake up America before Obama changes this country from the USA to the USSA. They just don't get it....that's why democrats are known for pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory.

This is what I wrote to AARP
I'm 42 and writing this to let you know because you have endorsed Obama's / Democrats Health care Bill That I will not join your Organization when I become of Age to join .

I will be joining your Competing Senior Citizen organization that has not Endorsed Obama's Health care Bill . I heard about this Organization on Rush Limbaugh's Radio Show on Friday, along with about 20 million other listeners ;) and if I had an AARP membership card I too would be cutting it in half and mailing it to you .

I suggest you reconsider publically your endorsement of Obama's Health care bill or you will reap the benefits of a continual membership revolt that will keep on giving like you've never experienced .

HOWS THAT HOPE & CHANGE WORKING OUT FOR YOU NOW ? :)

Bruce VandyBogurt

I will also be cancelling my AARP mebership and demand a refund. It is clear that AARP is not representing the members on ObamaCare.

My wife and I are both canceling our memberships. We cannot sit back and watch this organization stab us in the back. They do not listen to the people any better than Obama or Congress does and treats us the same way, they feel they know what's better for you than you do.

My thoughts

Dec 2, 2009

You have to wonder if AARP doesn't want it to fail and close up...you wonder if the funds have been going into the wrong pockets. If we knew the real cash that AARP takes in, we would ask why it hasn't gone to help the AARP members. Just look at the money they make off of AARP insurance, unbelieveable.

I am convience there is more then meets the eye...I wonder what the CEO is doing with all the money he is taking under the table.

I cancelled my membership a month ago. I was feed up in getting nothing out of membership except a magazine that told us how great AARP is supposely.

Does anyone have the name of any organizations for Senior Adults as alternative to AARP? An organization contacted me but I lost the name and would like to contact them, as I am no longer interested in AARP membership.

There is no doubt in my mind what so ever that Profit lance will show you how to make money online, but there are many obstacles your going to face in order to do it or to get to where I am at. What I mean is, there's allot of information, tools and resources in this course that your going to have to get familiarized with before you can become successful. Yes you will earn money but to make a living out of it your going to really need to understand how everything works.
