An end to immigration?

By: Michael Barone
Senior Political Analyst
06/08/09 11:06 AM EDT

Are we seeing a end to large-scale immigration? That’s the implication in this June 6 story in the Wall Street Journal. Key sentence: “Emigration from Mexico to the U.S. dropped 13% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, with more Mexicans leaving the U.S. than coming in.” There are more details farther down in the story. “Data released this week by the Mexican government shows emigration to the U.S. dropped 13% in the first quarter of 2009. In the same period, more people returned to Mexico than left Mexico for the U.S., about 139,000 and 137,000 respectively.” My initial assumption is that Mexican statistics here are more reliable than U.S. statistics. American statisticians are trying to measure a cross-border flow which is in large part illegal under U.S. law. Mexican statisticians are trying to measure a cross-border flow which is almost entirely legal under Mexican law.

If you go back in American history, you will find that very few if anyone predicted that our great migrations—the great surges of immigration and of internal migration—would occur, and very few predicted when those migrations would abruptly end, as they usually do. For example, net migration from Puerto Rico to the Mainland (almost entirely to New York City in those days) began in the late 1940s and ended abruptly in 1961, when household incomes in Puerto Rico reached about one-third the level in the Mainland (and about one-half those in Mississippi).

Barack Obama has said that he wants to make revision of our immigration laws a priority this year. I doubt that most Democratic congressional leaders agree. But whether or not there’s a major push for a so-called comprehensive immigration bill of the type put forward in the Senate in June 2007, there’s a need on all sides to rethink immigration policy. Both advocates and opponents of comprehensive bills have based their arguments on the assumption that large-scale immigration from Latin America and parts of Asia will continue indefinitely. But what if that assumption is false? Yes, our current recession is presumably temporary. But there is at least one other reason to assume that immigration from Latin America may not resume at previous levels: birth rates in Mexico and other Latin countries fell sharply around 1990. I’m going to take a look at the Mexican statistics and try to keep an eye on this.

Now excuse me Mr.Barone. Are you talking about illegal immigration or legal immigration? It is especially people like you, who in the past and possibly still in the present, were enthusiastic about illegal immigration. Please don't bother to deny it. There are dozens of postings of you saying so in the past and not so distant past. Mr. Barone's opinions cannot be given any serious consideration on immigration issues, whether illegal or legal. He has spouted off the Wall Street toon of how these people benefit the nation. Americans now know better. They have seen how TRAITOROUS LAW FIRMS, have even coached companies that hire illegal foreingners of all kinds, on how they can get away with it, and fire their American workers. Americans of all stripes are on to the treasonous relationship of the administration and big business Wall Street firms--AGAINST THE AMERICAN CITIZENRY. THE JIG IS UP MR. BARONE, AMERICANS ARE ON TO YOU.

If Latin America's birth rates fell at all, it was because they were all immigrating illegally to America, to have their anchor babies here, at U.S. taxpayer expense. I see jalopies with 4 kids in the back, sans seatbelts. 2 kids is all I could afford, and that's a struggle. Anyone here illegally needs to be immediately deported. That's the way the world works. That's what borders are for.

Although Mexican immigration represents the largest immigrant group here, the U.S. has received immigrants from all over the world, including China which is the largest holder of U.S. Treasury notes. Since we have over 14 American workers, including legal immigrants, who have lost their jobs and at least 47 million without health insurance, we cannot afford to wait until immigration from Asia, Latin America or other parts of the world to slow to take serious steps to reduce both legal and illegal immigration. Instead of allowing one million legal immigrants, hundreds of thousands of "guestworkers" and at least half a million of illegal aliens to enter the U.S. every year who need jobs, health care, education and many other social services, President Obama and Congress should immediately work together to enact some sort of immigration moratorium if they are serious about address our national problems. I lived in the U.S. before all this horrible Third World Immigration entered the U.S. It was a paradise in the U.S. Look at it now and tell me thing have improved. It stinks here now.

Back in the sixties the government came into the schools and brainwashed us with the idea we needed to control the population because it was rising so fast. They said the roads would become crowded and we would run out of things like water. They unleashed abortions, birth control pills, and other forms of Family Planning. To allow the country to be over run with the criminals in businesses illegal labor while the criminals in the government aid and abet the invasion is a travesty against mankind. They have seen to our children were killed to control the population at the same time allowing the world to export their population problems here. What about our sacrifices, many made against our will????? P.S. We still haven't recovered from the last time the criminals in business were allowed to bring in their slaves.

Barone is a WSJ Open Borders political hack. Nothing he's ever said on cable news stations is of any interest. He loves cheap, illegal labor and cares not that illegal aliens kill or murder 25 Americans each day, nationally. He could are less about their (major) role in the destruction of the once great state of California. Barone needs to take a week off and fly to Tuscon, then motor to Palominas, AZ and camp out with Minuteman Shawn Forde, and expert on the Invasion. Mr. Inside-the-Beltway Barone needs to ask Ms. Forde whether the numbers of illegal entries has decreased or increased. She'll tell him that the Invasion is back to 2007 numbers, and the more the Dems and Obama in particular talks of Amnesty, thos numbers are going to STAY high!

Why immigrate

Jun 9, 2009

Our forefathers thought that immigration was highly necessary for a well balanced country. I don't think so. I think that society has lost society. I think that societies are confused. I think all immigration should stop, however should be free to host any society. Peace.

Immigrants used to be from pre islamic Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Now they are from POS countries and they have no skills or education. They come here to kill, rape and pillage. You can thank that pos senator Ted Kennedy for the 1965 and 1986 immigration bills. He is the evil culprit who started it all.

The wild west is over. The party establishments support immigration policy grounded in the realities of the 19th century. We need tens of millions of unskilled immigrants to level the mountains and drain the swamps. NOT. The days of mass immigration are over. Unfortunately our politicians are the last of the great medieval thinkers, and do not have a clue. Bill Clinton wanted a "bridge to the 21st century." Yet the Democratic Party's immigration policy is grounded in the realities of the 19th century. Time to get the reactionaries like Kennedy and McCain out of office and replace them with people who are savvy to the realities of today.

They came for the jobs during an economic boom. Unfortunately, the US government didn't recognize the need for these workers, so they came without proper documentation or overstayed their visas. Now they are part of our social and economic fabric and removing them by either force or attrition will be costly and have a significant economic impact. Look at Prince William County, VA & Maripoca County, AZ as examples for the disastrous effects incurred in their housing sectors which are more than double the standard. Nobody was complaining about immigrants(legal or otherwise) during good economic times when we had historically low unemployment. Ignorant people are now scapegoating immigrants regardless of status. This is un-American and should stop immediately. We are now, and always have been a nation of immigrants. God Bless the USA!

Nobody was complaining about "immigrants" during good economic times, etc." Where have you been? On the moon? Californians, people from a state that some would say is BIG and economically important, have been complaining about illegal immigration for twenty years. Minutemen/women were formed and called "vigalantes" by President Bush and the Chambers of Commerce. NOW CALIFORNIA IS BROKE. FLAT OUT BROKE BECAUSE OF THE INSANE UNRELENTING AND ALLOWED ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, BY MAINLY THE DEMOCRATS, INTO THE STATE. Please, don't talk of things you haven't a clue about. Perhaps YOU were benefitting from illegal immigration, but millions of working Americans were not. Not in any way, whether it was the absurdly high taxes paid to support them, the crime, the document fraud and all of the rest.

Jun 9, 2009

Barone sounds like another sheltered elite journalist who lives in a gated community. I see and feel the negative impacts of mass migration (legal and illegal) every day -- no doubt due to the fact that we still allow over 1 million legal immigrants per year (green cards). Plus hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens sneak across the border annually and/or overstay their visas. This flow may have declined recently somewhat due to the tanked economy, but look for this flow to increase again once the economy improves and Obama continues to gut and end immigration enforcement. The threat of mass legal and illegal immigration/overpopulation is still VERY real.

Jun 9, 2009

Really Thought, well, all I can say is you should move out of California. Your comment doesn't really deserve a serious answer, since you are guilty of a logical fallacy. That is, you are setting up an argument, that no one here is discussing, since no one here has stated that Immigrants(as you call illegal aliens) are the cause of all of the nations problems. Just an awfull lot of them. If your'e going to post an argument don't be so intellectually lazy.

To the person who says that this is a Nation of Immigrants:

Hey!!! this Country was never a Nation of Immigrants. I tell you why. The only people who came here from the beginning were Europeans and those who were allowed to come here have been only more Europeans. All this until the treason by the Kennedy(s), Johnson and all other White members of Congress.

Barone makes no sense and should be taken as an anti-American.

Can he see where America is going with all these millions of third-world ant-White invaders?
