Anti-Fox website takes up ACORN cause

With Congress getting ready to pass a continuing resolution that might -- or might not -- extend the ban on federal funds for ACORN, there's a new campaign urging lawmakers to restore federal funding for the community organizing group. The website DeFOX America, which is devoted both to attacking Fox News and defending ACORN, is asking readers to sign a petition urging Congress "to stand up to [Fox's] McCarthyite tactics by voting against any unconstitutional legislation that singles out specific organizations. This includes the continuing resolution that cuts off Federal support to the national anti-poverty group ACORN."

I reported yesterday that the congressional defunding of ACORN, which some observers assumed was permanent, was actually written to last just for the duration of the current continuing resolution that keeps money flowing to the federal government. That resolution expires at midnight October 31 -- this Saturday. To keep the government running, Congress must pass a new continuing resolution before that time. Insiders expect the ACORN defunding language will be included in the new resolution, which would extend the ACORN funding ban until mid-December. At that time, Congress will probably be ready to pass its actual appropriation measures for fiscal year 2010, and that is when there could be significant debate about money for ACORN. Unless language specifically defunding ACORN is in those appropriations bills, ACORN could again be eligible for federal dollars.

"DeFOX America" is urging the public to "email Congress and tell them to vote NO on the Defund ACORN Act." The site also includes a box which readers can check if they want to receive email updates from ACORN itself.

"DeFOX America" is the work of Brave New Films, an organization founded by Hollywood filmmaker Robert Greenwald. Greenwald has made several documentaries, including films on the war in Iraq, on Fox News, and, most recently, on the war in Afghanistan, that have been distributed by left-wing netroots groups.

Author's note -- For full disclosure, I am a Fox News contributor.

I hope O'Keefe and Giles have many many more videos in the vault. I suspect they do. The more ACORN and its buddies spew their lies, the more videos will be released showing their true mission. The dems know this and are sure they've gotten one over on us all.

And I'm not sure they haven't gotten around us. I think Mr. York is right, I think the libs have done an end run on us on this issue. We just have to hope those with some integrity keep the heat on until a true investigation is done.

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.

ACORN is corrupt and has a radical left agenda. I know because I worked for them for a little while when I was desperate for work. First of all, Fox did not do anything but REPORT the news. That said, Congress temporarily defunded ACORN because there are dozens of criminal investigations into their dealings. There is nothing illegal nor unconstitutional about deciding that an organization does not currently qualify for tax dollars. People like this so-called "filmmaker" think it is okay to be corrupt and break the law as long as they are on their side of political ideology. That just means this guy is morally bankrupt and is probably a criminal himself.

Once again I really can not believe what the White House/ MSM is doing next... Why does the White House need to have an oppinion on one news network VS another? It is so obvious... Why would they (WH) get sooo upset because they report the truth, not left wing agenda? Maybe because the truth about Berry and his ENTIRE cabinet and ACORN /SEIU is ALL BAD. Hmm na, that can't be it. The MSM has to suppress that info for as long as they can or they (Dems) are in trouble. I bet 70% of Dems have accepted ACORN $$. I think it is pathetic that news organizations are trying to shape history/ the United States via what they report. Very sad. God Bless Rush, Beck, and Britebart (and Okeef/Giles)

Why don't we just get it over with and re-instate the Alien & Sedition Acts?

If you go to Robert Greenwald's foundation website,Brave New Foundation, their mission statement is "To champion social justice issues by using a model of media, education, and grassroots volunteer involvement that ispires, empowers, motivates and teaches civic participation and make a difference." Listed as its partners are the usual SEIU & ACORN ect... My guess is that if you go to the root of the Foundation you'll find Obama's pals.

Acorn is alive due to our taxpayer money. Greenwald should put all his money he has made on movies into ACORN. Then we can see where his interests really lie. Acorn and all the seeds it has sprouted must be squashed. Taxpayers deserve the truth about where the money has been going and is going.

As one of the people here that actually have a job, house, and pay taxes. I don't want any of my tax money going to ACORN, Tides or any other group. That is not what tax dollars are for period. I could go on for days but I won't, plain and simple am not your @!%$#@%in ATM ACORN!!!!

I was not aware that Fox News accused ACORN of being a Communist group. They are just "Community Organizers," like Obambi! ACORN is an arm of the Democrat party, and the Democrats will not keep funds from their allies for much longer.

Tater Salad

The Democratic Party will be "defunded" and starting next week. All future elections will be what we call a "house cleaning".
