Arlen Specter: I'm still relevant. After all, I helped kill Bork.

Today's hearing for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor was a huge comedown for Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania senator who as a Republican was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the John Roberts and Samuel Alito confirmation hearings.  Now, after switching to the Democrats in an open bid to save his job, Specter is next-to-last in seniority among Democratic senators on the committee.  (He is ahead of Sen. Al Franken, who joined the committee just days ago, well after Specter.)

Specter skipped the morning session of the Sotomayor hearing Monday, but showed up to make his opening remarks after lunch.  After the hearing, I asked Specter how his experience this time differs from the Roberts and Alito confirmations.  "Well, I've sat in these hearings in a variety of positions," Specter said.  "I was way down the line when I questioned Judge Bork, and I am said to have had a role in that proceeding.  It doesn't matter where you sit, it's a matter of what you say."

So, this senate porker was a "Borker".
Is he bragging that he was a party to that disgusting display? That's like bragging that you were in on a mugging. Only the other jailbirds would be impressed. Oh, I forget, he's talkng to the Senate. Yep, that will impress 'em.

Please! People of Pa., do not re-elect this man! By switching from Dem to Rep, than Rep to Dem..he is only in politics to further his career and take what he can from us!

Robert Bork is still, in my mind, one of the most qualified individuals ever to be nominated for the Supreme Court. What happened during his hearing should be an embarrassment to all those still serving in the Senate.

Arlen Specter, you sir are completely irrelevant. You did little more than bring disgrace and embarrassment to the Republican Party. You will surely continue doing the same to the Democratic Party.

Belatedly, one more thing...Oh how the mighty have fallen. Congratulations on losing your seniority.
