Democrat sees "huge unknowns" in health care bill

Tennessee Democrat Phil Bredesen has been, in my opinion, one of the best governors of this decade and, as this article by Fred Lucas in the Weekly Standard indicates, he’s an expert on health care policy. So it’s worthy of note that Bredesen is now saying that the Baucus health care bill could cost Tennessee state government far more than the $735 million over five years he had previously estimated, and could exceed $3 billion for the years 2014 to 2019. “There are huge unknowns for the states in this reform,” he said. Do Democratic members of Congress really want to be held responsible for how those “huge unknowns” turn out? There’s a prevailing assumption around town that failure to pass major health care legislation would be political death. But passing a law that produces a horrible mess could be even more electorally deadly.

The Democrats are now biting into some massive dog dirt. I personally see no way out for them.

Michael, I don't know if you're aware of the latest trick. Senate Democrat leaders made a procedure move Tuesday night that allows the chamber to bypass the usual committee process and take the $245 billion proposed by Sen Stabenow for physician fees straight to the floor. The intent is to take the $250 billion out of the "deficit neutral" health bill and just pile it onto the deficit.

Unbelievable!
