Gibbs: Press corps wanted Obama to get yelled at

The White House is still harumphing today over media coverage of health care reform -- along with Republicans, the administration's designated culprits in stirring up dissent. Among other things, presenting more than one side of a story is under fire, and today we heard the (actually, true) accusation that reporters were hoping the reliably contrarian good citizens of New Hampshire had mixed it up a little more with President Obama yesterday.

Jake Tapper from ABC News had this exchange with press secretary Robert Gibbs:

QUESTION: A couple questions. I don't know if you think it's unfair to say, but it occurs to me that if the president finds himself at a town hall meeting telling the American people that he does not want to set up a panel to kill their grandparents that perhaps, at some point, the president has lost control of the message.

And I'm wondering if you -- if -- if what you've seen in the last few weeks is one of the reasons why it was so important to the president earlier this year to pass health care reform in the House and Senate before the August recess. Is everything that's going on right now what you feared would happen?

GIBBS: No, I -- a lot of ways to take this question. I'm trying to figure out which avenue to drive down. Do you just say "yes" and go to the next? That's certainly one way of doing it.

(LAUGHTER)

The -- let me sort of -- let me split these up a little bit. I think there's a tremendous amount of disinformation that's out there. We -- we've -- we've seen it.

And, look, let's be honest. You all, the media, tend to cover, "X said this, Y said this," but some of you -- but not everyone -- does an investigation about whether what X said is actually true. Now, that's not -- I'm not -- that's not a blanket statement. Not every one of you is that.

QUESTION: We've called the death panels false. I don't know what more you want from us.

GIBBS: Well, I don't think everybody's called them false. I think a lot of people have done stories about -- again, it's he said/she said, no pun intended, because actually she said it.

I don't think there's any doubt that in some ways -- look, I -- I think some of you were disappointed yesterday that the president didn't get yelled at, sure. I don't think there's any doubt about that.

Despite what our Congressional leaders and the MSM think, these patriots attending town hall meetings are not illiterate,or worse yet, rascists. They are very, very, angry. I don't think the President had any problems at his town hall meeting due to the fact that these people don't blame him personally, they respect the Office of the President....or they packed the hall with Acorn volunteers.

Don't forget this White House is infested with Hollywood and media hired flunkies. There to do major PR propaganda and photo ops. There's nothing genuine or real about this current administration. Starting with the president himself, a bunch of phonies!

Geez. I am so sick of this Administration whining about the press. That's akin to me blaming everything on my mommy who I know loves me very much. This guy should go back and check out the coverage during the entire Bush presidency. He should go back and see how the lefties equating Bush to Hitler were described simply as patriotic anti-war protestors. The One is a puppetteer and the press is his puppets and yet he finds a way to whine about them. Simply amazing. As Cavuto says, I don't care about the color of his skin, I care about the thinness of it.

Obama's townhall was a canned event. They weren't going to let anyone in there who opposed him. All the questions were known beforehand and all the participants were prescreened for loyalty. It was a show for entertainment.

Don’t believe obummer’s lie that there will not be death panels. Why do I know? There already are death panels in Oregon’s universal care system! They have had real people be refused treatment on account of cost. Those same people were however offered suicide drugs.

Nothing obama says has meaning because he can't be trusted.

Watch this video. You’ll see obama lie like a dog in his very own words.

Never have I seen a president divide a country as much as Obama doing. He and his lap dog Robert Gibbs attack anybody and everybody that doesn't agree with them. Never have I seen a president personally go after people and news stations like he does. If Obama had the attacks directed at him that president Bush had he would have a mental break down. This man is so thin skinned that he can't take the least amount of criticism. How is he goinmg to handle real pressure if he can't handle this. It makes you wonder how mentally competent this guy is.

Personally Gibbs is my favorite. He cannot answer a single question straight. At the beginning he almost did but then he used the common democrat tactic known as "divert" (usually done with blame but stil applicable here). If you read his statements and then go back and read the question you will see they are completely incoherent. Gibbs is the poster child of the yes-man. He has no idea what hes saying but he can sure wiggle his way out of a crowd of reporters. It also helps that the reporters are likely greased.

My favorite observation about Gibbs was made by Dennis Miller. He said, about Gibbs, that, "He reminds me of those PC vs. Mac commercials. He reminds me of the PC guy. He's a little bit outmoded."

I thought that was hilarious! The more I think about it, the more that I think that maybe Gibbs kind of looks like the P.C. guy too!
