House GOP to call for total cutoff of federal funds to ACORN

By: Byron York
Chief Political Correspondent
09/15/09 8:54 AM EDT

Today House Republicans will introduce a bill that would end all federal funding to ACORN and its affiliates. Republicans are also sending a letter to President Obama on the same subject.

The action comes after the release, on the website BigGovernment, of three undercover videos showing ACORN employees in Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City offering advice on how to evade taxes, cover up prostitution activity, and abet the use of minors in prostitution. In the wake of those disclosures, the U.S. Census cut its ties with ACORN, and yesterday the Senate voted 83-7 to cut off housing funds for the organization.

House Republicans point out that they have long pushed for a cutoff in government funding for ACORN. Republican leader John Boehner last year sent a letter to President Bush asking for the defunding of ACORN. There is already Republican legislation calling for the total cutoff of Housing and Urban Development Department funds to ACORN, and Rep. Darrell Issa, the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, took a leading role in pushing for the Census Bureau decision.

Well, it is about time for this. Our two brainless senators, Burris and Durbin apparently want the funds to continue, along with 5 other winners.

We must include in such a proposal that all organizations who have a limited or extensive relationship with ACORN will be closely reviewed as well. Such an important decision could simply encourage people to move money in a different way. Hit the Rathke boys where it hurts. I want them in front of the Senate to explain a few things.

There is no doubt ACORN should be stripped of all funding. Citizens of the United States should not have to fund organized crime.

Any no vote sends the message that child-prostitution, slavery, tax evasion and defrauding the government is A-OK in their books. That alone will make great ads to use to vote them out.

Next big project for ACORN is the census. They are signed up to "count". Their voter registration/voter fraud would pale in comparison to this potential fraud. They need to be immediately suspended from any government related efforts of any kind - pending the investigations, indictments, convictions, and sentencing.
Biggest obstacle to anything ACORN related?? Our own Attorney General and Justice Department.

What one has here is a criminal enterprise responsible in large part for the financial calamity the country is experiencing. Of course funds should be cut off but these people need to see the inside of a jail as well.

I do hope the "grey area" (emotion) of wondering what will happen to the poor does not trump the "black & white" of law (what is right). These robbers have been getting rich on the backs of the poor for a long time, the difference between them and the wealthy, the wealthy make the money for both themselves and the criminals at ACORN, thanks to our bleeding heart government.

Sep 15, 2009

Do you honesty believe Obama is going to allow this to happen? It was ACORN that put him in the White House. The FEDS will not cut off funding, Congress will only make it look like they are doing something. The DEMS love ACORN !

NanaRCR

Sep 15, 2009

Keep digging. Could be that some in ACORN have impeachable evidence on Obama. With his track record of unguarded moments (Gates arrest, Kanye West jackass remark), it's entirely possible.

So finally someone in Congress is doing something about a corrupt organization that many Libertarians, like me, have been screaming about for years. Nice of the Senate to finally wake up, oh and to the GOP in the House too. So sorry that Nazi Pelosi won't allow the bill to get to the floor. I wonder who she'll react - if she does - when she hears the ACORN worker from San Bernardino admit to murdering her husband? Will Obama finally cut his ties to this criminal organization that makes Al Capone's mob look like rank amateurs?

This is not good enough.

ACORN Housing Inc is the enterprise that has been engaged by O'Keefe and Giles. All these measures do is cut off Acorn Housing Inc. What we do know is that ACORN uses a spider web of organizations that transfer money between them. Outfits that are allegedly independent are housed in the same offices as ACORN. Outfits that are allgedly independent share the same spokespeople and national leadership.

Bertha Lewis has no relation to ACORN Housing Inc, yet she is issuing comments and lobbying on its behalf.

The ACORN Institute has two pending grant applications through the Stimulus funded Broadband initiative. This is funding that falls under the Commerce Department. It is for a little more than 6 million dollars.

The Congress needs to investigate how ACORN is organized. This does not require a criminal investigation. The Congress should seek voluntary cooperation from ACORN officials.

Sep 15, 2009

However, due to corruption., overspending and complete disregard for conservative principles, the GOP can't get a bill so much as brought up in committee right now. So this is mostly grandstanding. If they were in the majority, they'd find a way to keep the funding going since they never saw a dollar they couldn't waste. Funding for ACORN didn't just get in the budget on January 20 of this year.

This kind of spending is what happens when our representative sign bills that no one reads!!!The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with all amendments consist of 46 pages, and the representatives apparently can't read that!!It is time the American people get wise to these Big Government spendthrifts and insist they limit bills to something they can read and understan before signing. Now we may get someone to check into John Murtha's airport!!!

Sep 15, 2009

This is a good start. We also want to see investigation proceedings on ACORN and SEIU. Our republican representatives need to be on notice that WE THE PEOPLE are watching and acting now. No longer are we going to be satisfied with a mini clean up action. We demand a clean up of corruption on both sides of the isle. If we don't see it we will be supporting a third party candidate, if that 3rd party candidate stands for clean up of Washington corruption

Sep 15, 2009

Now they need to investigate all ties to ACORN including SEIU that is also funded by our tax dollars and created the health care bill for Obama? They can't read because they are too busy calling each other names and then voting on who to put in time out???? Maybe if they actually worked for us we could get somewhere. This will go down as the worst Gov AGENDA in history!

Has anyone noticed the bare bones office space in each of the three videos? Where have the millions that have already been poured into ACORN gone to ? Clearly not into Office furnishings. They don't even have a bulletin board, there are notes taped to the otherwise bare walls. The names of the seven criminals who voted NO should be splashed all over the internet. (Let's be honest, the main streamers in the media won't touch this hot potato)

This, along with the tape to be aired on the Glenn Beck program this evening should be more than enough for the Justice Department to proscute ACORN and its affiliates, especially the SEIU, under the RICO statutes. THese organizations should be disbanded and never again see the light of day.

Acorn's Founding Counsel- Obama's Little Minions- corrupt??- Everything Obama has touched is Evil- as are all his associations and 40 czar's-( esp. the Czarina's Cass and Rhamm ). Why dont the lefties get it?? They WELCOME evil into this Country -they are GODLESS GHOULS- and they have their Man in Place to Destroy this Nation from within- The Old Hippies and the Weather Underground; et al- the Commies- being firmly entrenched and running the White House/Judiciary/Congress/ and the Media and Academia- Does this Nation stand a Chance?? Especially with so few Republicans with a spine- I hope the Congress Enjoy the last few days of being able to be bribed by the Lobbyist's as they will have lost this Nation and their Positions to unappointed CZARS- What a gaggle of Fools in Washington- if we survive to 2010- lets hope the Tea Party is the tip of the iceberg that will sink the crooks in Washington.

I can see this groundswell of citizen activism will lead to Mrs. Palin becoming an even brighter rising star. Cleaning up corruption is her forte` As Glen Beck has been saying for weeks.... Wake up America! You can do this!

Go Beck and Palin. ( Just had this thought, Imagine a Palin/Beck ticket in 2012)

I'm a Conservative Canadian, and I like what is happening in the USA, People making the first steps to taking their country back. You conservatives that are writing your Congressman/Senator: Don't give up. Keep at them. And Vote out all incumbents in the next election in 2010, and the remainder in 2012. You can do this!

An audit of tax-exempt ACORN's finances should be a priority. It's quite evident that the corruption within ACORN is systemic from the top down. There are good people in that organization, but since the government has consistently failed to perform adequate oversight since 1994 and given them $53 million taxpayer dollars the corruption seems to be rampant. Don't these inspector generals provide even quarterly reports to congress? Is congress to busy campaigning to even question the reports? The government's performance on oversight is laughable.

Are you kiddin me Mr President?! I beleive the 8 billion dollar funding for ACORN is in the Stimulus Bill you wrote but did not read! Can't make this crap up folks. Oh and lets see now he is willing to bailout the failed newpaper industries! and has the balls to say that the accurate journalism is essential to America. What he really means to say is " I want to bailout my media buddies who were as unfortunate to suffer low sales and rating as result of not reporting my affiliations with ACORN , Bill Ayers the REV Wright and countless other Czars and communists! Wake up America! and stop the lies Mr President
