Late August heat: No letup for Obama

By: Michael Barone

The tide of opinion seems to continue to run against Barack Obama and the Democrats’ health care bills. This seems apparent, for example, in this excellent article by Jonathan Martin in Politico on Congressman Allen Boyd’s town meetings. It is apparent in pollster Scott Rasmussen’s daily tracking, which shows 27% strongly approving Obama’s performance and 41% strongly disapproving. And note these very negative responses on an aol.com online poll: 78% say they do not believe Obama will make the right decisions for the country and 66% rate his job performance as poor, with another 15% fair. Obviously this is not representative of the general public. But so far as I know the aol.com website does not have an audience that tilts far to the right. The inference I draw is that those opposed to Obama and his health care plans are much more highly motivated to click on the poll than those on his side.

In response, Obama recalls those several weeks last August and September when he was not doing particularly well in the polls, when he seemed flatfooted in response to the selection of Sarah Palin and when he came out behind after the two parties’ national conventions. Obama makes the point that he adhered to his long-term strategy and ended up doing just fine in November.

A fair point, and consistent with Obama’s tendency to adopt and stick to long-term strategies, a course that often works very well for politicians. But it’s still not apparent how Obama will get the balance of enthusiasm, so positive for him in 2008, to work in his favor this year. This lead article from today’s Washington Post tells how a high-ranking Obama organizer is attempting to stir up enthusiasm in Racine, Wisconsin, which Obama carried 53%-46% in November 2008—exactly his national average. The organizer and his pals don’t seem to be having much success.

Curiously, the article does not mention that Racine County is in the congressional district represented by Republican Paul Ryan, ranking minority member on the Budget Committee and co-sponsor of an interesting health care plan which is one of the few Republican alternatives on offer.

It seems odd that an attractive non-entity from one of the most distant of the 57 states should cause a Presidential candidate to give 'flatfooted' responses during his campaign, while this same non-entity later reappears to post a short statement on a Facebook page and cause weeks of consternation among the triumvirate constituting our national rulers. So much consternation, in fact, that this non-entity may have evenhandedly upset the Socialist cart bearing the US National Health-Care Program.

A short but insightful statement confutes months of political blather. simply amazing!

It seems hard to reconcile the Left's diversity fetish with their infatuation with single payer insurance.

I guess next they will be proposing national monopolies for cable providers, cell phone services, and basketball teams. And maybe coffee shops. It would all be so much more efficient without that nasty competition.

It's not just Obama. It's congress even more.

Dodd, Pelosi, Reid and the corrupt gaggle of clowns inspire no confidence whatsoever.

Citizens MUST TAKE BACK THEIR COUNTRY.

Hold YOUR OWN Town Hall meetings. Don't invite the incumbent, but invite their opposition or better yet, hold a citizens PERFORMANCE REVIEW of your elected officials. Don't stop at Federal Level - include State and Local officials as well.

You get a performance appraisal at work - why not Congress, State and Local officials as well.

It's time the loudmouth activists are pushed off the stage and let REAL CITIZENS speak for themselves.

Cancel all media subscriptions until 2010 election is over.

That will insure a more fair election. It will help to eliminate those who don't contribute to growing GDP.

I AM FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM.

Immediately cancel all PUBLIC OFFICIAL plans, force them into the private sector AND pay for it on their own.

Immediately cancel all UNION plans and FORCE them into the private sector, AND pay for it on their own.

IN 2010 VOTE OUT LIBERAL REGRESSIVES and MARXISTS (who are 90% DEMOCRATS).

There seems to be a very serious feeling of unrest and a gnawing sense that something beyond our control is going to happen that will change the way this country has always functioned. Patriots who love this country and it's rich history are disenchanted by Barack Obama and no longer trust him and the "Change" he is trying to force down our throats. He came with so much Hope and 7 months later he has become a President who seems to be a Divider, rather than what he promised us he would be. People don't like to worry about what their President is going to do next. And this President is scaring the *ell out of George Orwell, and most of the citizens in this country. It's time for him to slow down and stop the excessive spending, borrowing and "Czar Hiring!" It's getting crazier by the day!

Why would you let up on such a lying fool. He is the worst thing to ever happen to this country. I hope he fails and the country falls into a civil war and get rid of all the people who voted for him. We need a revolution. CHE

one of the few Republican alternatives on offer.

Or, more accurately, one of the few to get out from under the media blanket. There are plenty of alternatives out there. We just aren't privileged with a press that isn't beholden to their chosen one.

The Obama bumper stickers are gone in our area. It is rare to see one....

People I know that were big boosters, no longer talk about it. They realize they were sold a bill of goods.

The press - as a whole is starting to turn. When the MSM feeding frenzy begins, it will be as nasty as anything we have ever seen.

Never in my life, have I seen a President foul up things in this country in such a short time!

Can we withstand 3 1/2 more years with him?

All the info about him was on the net during the campaigns, but you couldn't tell anyone anything...even when you gave them links, they just wouldn't believe it or read the link!

He is a liar, uses & steps on people to get where he is, a con man, and is dividing our country more than I have ever seen!

He is even making jobs for people in Brazil, by allowing a loan to go to help them drill for their own oil, while we are refused many of our own resources!

He, with Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd are destroying our country and our livelihoods!

To think Obama successfully convinced people for two years that experience doesn't matter seems absolutely amazing in hindsight. The Obama bubble has popped and people want their money back. Say what you will about her, but I seriously doubt Hillary would have created such a fiasco.

Now that we see how it's working out, I'm glad Obama won, and I'm even happier that the Democrats are stinking up the place. Sometimes a disease has to reach a crisis point; with Obama it's arrived much sooner than I would have ever expected. This country is having its own "Anbar Awakening": Now the damage inflicted by socialism is no longer potential, we are living it. And the Democrats are going to be sorry they couldn't control themselves.

When the birth certificate issue gets to the supreme court and we find that Barry was born in Kenya after all it will take down the whole Dem party and the main stream media as they are in on this also. The MSM has covering for him especially on the certificate of live birth that was proven a hoax and they know it but must ride the bus.

Speaking about late August heat on Democrats...

Out here in the 3rd CD in SW Washington, Congressman Brian Baird has repeatedly claimed he has "turned over" "death threats" made against him to the Capitol Hill Police.

I called the CHP on Friday morning, and they have never received such a report from Congressman Baird, or any other member of Congress.

One does not "turn over" anything for investigation without a report, and there are few things more serious that require a formal report than a death threat made against a Congressman.

Where in the World is Brian Baird's Capitol Hill Police Report?

Although I think Obama is terrible for the country, he's not the fool - the American public are the fools for buying his BS. To have looked at his record and his past and expect anything other than this is rediculous. There is an old saying in the business world "Hope is a bad strategy". Apparently it worked for him.

Propaganda works every time it is tried. Obama and his henchmen (Czars) and the Dems in Congress are orchestrating the most vicious assault on the free market system this country has ever seen. They are deliberately undermining the Capitalistic system in every way they can.

Also, why has the organized run on the banking system not been investigated? It was timed to affect the elections and has never been investigated. The run happened suddenly over the space of about an hour and was well coordinated. That was a criminal conspiracy in fact!
