Nobel runners-up to Obama

This morning, Lawrence O'Donnell defended the award of the Nobel Peace prize to President Obama on the grounds that there was no one else noteworthy who deserved the prize anyway. To aid him in his future appearences, here are two nominees who have actually put something on the line to create "hope" and "change" for people who really need it.

Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has been arrested and beaten for his peaceful political resistance to the brutal dictatorship of Robert Mugabe. But his persistence has brought about small steps toward a free and open Zimbabwean society.

The pro-democracy, AIDS and environmental advocacy of Chinese dissident Hu Jia has earned him a three-and-a-half year sentence in Red China's gulag.

But both of those candidates were of the old-style, "peace is worth sacrificing for" candidates. It seems the committee has transcended the need to select a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to peace, but they are willing to reward the potential peace-making ability of a guy with great speech writers and the ability to deliver a great speech to influence seekers of peace.

President Obama has a much bigger audience than a couple of local martyrs who have walked the walk as they have tried to improve the lives of their fellow citizens.

Sound cynical, you bet!

I think they gave it to him, because he has sucessfully brought our economy to her knees! Some are actually gleeful to see us go under!

When they have "nobody" to give it to, they usually give it to an organization like the IAEA or Doctors Without Borders. Is there no worthy NGO in the world now?

Look, he had been president for 11 days before the nominations were due, and he had been in the US Senate for 20 minutes, so this must be based on his phenomenal career in the Illinois state legislature? Or maybe something he did at Occidental College?

The two nominees mentioned, Tsanvigirai and Jia, are not anti-American, which did not help their case.

I guess sending 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan and the assaults in Helmand and Qandahar provinces are "Peace Keeping" measures.

What a mockery to what a Nobel Peace award should stand for. Awards for pretty speeches. I'm speechless.

Look people, he won because his large ears can block out the sun and help bring and end to global warming. That and the fact his head has grown so large from his ego and you will see the temps actually dropping so low that we are in danger of global freezing. It's either that or because he is black. Awarded for 12 days worth of work? Amazing.

Attack Bush for killing innocents & Gitmo. Then OK drone attacks yourself killing innocent babies & families, while prisoners are now sent off to Middle East secret prisons, not Gitmo, "to be interrogated". Outta sight, outta mind & beyond the ACLU's reach. Give speeches about "no races in America" & telling parents "to be more responsible". Then go off to worship under the Black Value System, in a black theology church with a rev. ranting racist anti-white, anti-American & anti-Semitic sermons as your 2 young daughters sit in the pews & soak it all in. Yep! No races & responsible parenthood alright. The elite Euro-trash Love it! Note; Bin Laden was their 1st choice, but could not be contacted about his winning the prestigious award, so.....

Let's see, in an inevitable war with Iran, Obama is trading in a fight for which civilization's victory would be sure and not too costly if fought now, for a much bigger, bloodier, and likely nuclear war that we will be forced to fight when Iran initiates it, with a much more precarious chance of survival, and the Nobel Peace Prize is being awarded for THAT?
