Obama's statement that 14,000 lose their insurance daily is ridiculous

By: David Freddoso

I referred earlier the incongruity of President Obama's statement that 14,000 people lose their insurance daily, but I fear that I understated the case for just how ridiculous it is.

Not only does it mean that 15 million more people would be uninsured by the time his bill goes into effect in 2013, but it would also mean that nearly every one of the 46 million uninsured persons in America today -- a number which includes illegal immigrants, Medicaid-eligible persons, and wealthy people who refuse coverage -- became uninsured in the last nine years.

In other words, every single uninsured person in America appears to have lost their insurance under the administration of George W. Bush. Perhaps everything really is his fault, after all?

Oh, please! Half a million people are losing their jobs every month. Based on 14,000 per day, only 80% of them are losing their insurance. The President said nothing about the last eight years or the next four. There is enough to criticize without deluting the cause with this crap!

How many obtain insurance daily?

So, half a million lose their jobs - are you assuming they are the insurance provider in their "family"? And, why are so many people losing their jobs with Obama as president?
"cause"? Is that what this - a "cause"?
This isn't a cause, it is my HEALTHCARE for the next 50 years of my life. I take that as more than a "CAUSE"!? And these morons want to pigeon hole me into a government plan by setting up the circumstances that cause me to have that as the only option. Of course the bill doesn't say it - but it is the ONLY LOGICAL CONCLUSION.

Yeah, totally ridiculous.

Similarly, my wife told me she is losing about a pound a week. I told her that can't possibly be true, because that would mean she weighed 600 pounds in 1999.

I am good at math, just like David Freddoso.

Obama said everyone will be required to carry basic HI... just like most states require auto insurance. In my state, if you have an accident, your auto insurance goes up!!! Is this going to be true of health insurance too!?

Yes, and a few weeks ago, his figure was 17,000 people losing insurance daily. Also, we seem to have lost about 17 million citizens. In July, the messiah was using the 47 million uninsured figure. Last night he used 30 million. Where have those 'citizens' gone?

Ggordon , I'm with you. If I were to state in an essay written for a college economics class that 14,000 people lose their health care every day, I would expect a question written by the teacher in red ink in the margin asking me, "how many gain insurance every day?" The real question is what is the difference between the two. Similarly, the President stated that 30 million people are uninsured. Why not tell us what percentage of that number are without insurance for more than 90 days? It's like looking down a manhole cover at a storm drain during a Spring rainstorm in Los Angeles. I could tell you that in the area I am looking at there are X number of gallons of rainwater. But a more pertinent question would be, "how many gallons are passing through my view in a given time period." Same with the uninsured. why aren't the Republicans making these points?

Obammie and his socialist camp followers lie without compunction, as though they were born to it. If they were serious about saving money they could start by ending funding to the corrupt Acorn orgainization. And why was there no mention of the Acorn scandal on Yahoo! news this morning? Is that oversight, incompetence, or more liberal distortion by omission?

Let's tell the truth, rather than distorting what was said.

President Obama: “Now, one part of the problem is the uninsured. And this morning the Census Bureau released new data showing not only that the poverty rate increased last year at the highest rate since the early 1990s, but also that the number of uninsured rose in 2008. And we know from more up-to-date surveys that since the recession intensified last September, the situation has grown worse. Over the last twelve months, it’s estimated that the ranks of the uninsured have swelled by nearly six million people. That’s 17,000 men and women every single day.”

At this point, since Obama lies so frequently, I propose we all assume that everything he says is a lie, unless he can back up his statements.

My bet is less than a baker's dozen during the rest of the year. They will likely be statements about what a rotten golfer he is.

If 14,000 are losing health insurance daily because they are LOSING JOBS, it seems we should be most concerned about the job loss. Yet Obama says a million new jobs have been created??? Nothing he says adds up.

ggordon,
with logic like that you won't be able to sleep at night.... those evil obama people, deliberately making people lose their jobs so they could argue that universal health insurance is needed. hmmm.... could it be anything to do with the recession caused by the financial meltdown and the exporting of jobs wholesale to China? Excercise a bit of critical thought my friend.

Joanne,
As you may know, there are jobs being lost and created all the time. The numbers quoted in the media are the NET of the two. So, if there have been 2.5 million jobs lost (actual losses) during the period and the stimulus package has created one million, then the media will have reported 1.5 million jobs lost. It does add up, but you do have to pay attention to what is being talked about.
