Pelosi will profit from Obama-Waxman-Markety cap-and-trade energy bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has vowed to bring the Obama-Waxman-Markey (OWM) anti-global warming cap-and-trade energy bill to the floor for a final vote Friday, which raises an interesting question: How much money will Pelosi make if the measure becomes law, as seems quite likely?

Pelosi, of course, is not the only member of Congress to own significant shares of energy companies. Senators and representatives from all over the country do, not just the "oilies" from energy states like Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

But as House Speaker, Pelosi's ownership of an unknown number of shares in the Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (CLNE) valued at between $15,000 and $50,000, may deserve particular attention.

Shares of CLNE have gone up and down in value in recent years, thanks to the fluctuations in the price of natural gas and changes in the oil industry worldwide. And a Pelosi spokesman told The Washington Examiner last year that her husband takes care of their stock portfolio, so she has no knowledge of how any of her family investments will be affected by any particular piece of legislation before Congress.

Another prominent public figure with an interest in OWM is CLNE's major domo, T. Boone Pickens, best known of late as a wind-energy investor and the man behind the largest-ever single donation to a state university, $165 million to Oklahoma State University for its athletic programs three years ago. CLNE is a cog in Pickens massive plan to create a giant wind farm in West Texas to generate electricity.

Pelosi will profit because OWM will boost the price of natural gas on the market. This is because natural gas burns with significantly less carbon emissions than other fossil fuels. For companies trying to get under OWM limits for greenhouse gases emissions, burning more natural gas instead of, say coal, will be a no-brainer. That will drive up demand for natural gas, which in turn will create upward price pressures.

i have to make a comment about fox news. i have tried to bring this issue up on the american thinker site. no one commented on it they just called me a troll. i find it disturbing that fox news hasn't reported on this, the goldman sachs bonuses and the citi pay raises. citi isn't giving bonuses there raising pay of there employess by fifty percent so the government doesnt get involved. ive noticed since watching fox news that there not that much different from the mainstream media. they have a couple hosts who say there conservative but if you listen to talk radio or go on good websites some of the most important stories are never brought up on fox news. the cap and trade bill would be devastating to the economy and not only pelosi but al gore and probably other democrats stand to get rich of it while we get poor.

tyler i think your right. this like others is a huge story not covered by fox news. i think most people would agree with your point and dont watch fox news. there the highest rated cable news channel but in reality not many people watch them one or two million thats it. if they were truly conservative and covered real stories theyd have more viewers probably.

And a Pelosi spokesman told The "Washington Examiner last year that her husband takes care of their stock portfolio, so she has no knowledge of how any of her family investments will be affected by any particular piece of legislation before Congress." Uhhhh, so what. If your husband's in charge of your money, then *HE* has the knowledge of how her investments will be affected by legislation in *HER* congress...

You are absolutely right about Fox News. I did about 51 years of TV News and I know they add some stories and dump others that Murdock bay doesn't want on the tube. They are going where NBC is now, a has-been operation.

craig im not saying lets boycott fox news. all im saying is if there not reporting the most important stories and they act like they don't exist then there not that good of a news organization. and as much as liberals hate fox news im just saying wouldn't it be nice if they were more conservative. i think bob has a point murdoch controls everything about fox news. mark levin won't even talk bad about bill oreilly because fox news told him that it will make them mad. there like a fascist organization. when michael savage was banned from entering the uk they didn't even mention it. guess why? he was there biggest critic. so if you criticize fox news they boycott you. cnn had two interviews with savage and fox news didn't mention his name.

bob let me give you an example of what fox news is covering right now. the congress is going to pass the biggest tax legislation in american history. the fox nation has no mention of it. its talking about mark sanford and bill oreilly. bill oreilly is covering a child who was molested. sean hannity is covering mark sanford. no mention of this gigantic tax bill that would harm the economy. i just don't see how people don't see how pathetic fox news is.

I hate to ruin your acid trip Tyler, Glenn and Craig, but FOX News Fox News averaged the same number of viewers as the top three other cable news networks combined!!! And while rivals like CNN (-22%) and MSNBC (-18%) took hits following last quarter’s Inauguration-fueled boost, Fox News (-3%) remained nearly steady. I know you are trying to convince yourselves how evil FOX is, the numbers dont lie. The reason they are number one is simple: They are not slobbering over an out of control agenda.

jay i totally agree with you. fox news is the best news available. i dont think any of us would disagree with you on that point. ill im trying to point out is that this climate bill is gonna be the destruction of the economy and fox news hasn't covered it. this happens all the time at fox news. oreilly covers a girl getting molested and hannity covers mark sanford. i dont think anyone criticizes fox on this point i was just trying to see what other people thought about this issue. but for you to say were on an acid trip because we dont drink the fox kool aid shows your just a drone. go to the fox nation website and tell me what you think? there a joke!

Cap and Trade bill is a nutty, leftwing worthless to the earth, bill. Its a NEW TAX bill. We are hurting jobwise, 10 million Americans are unemployed. Business needs to fed help to expand, inorder to create more jobs. Every bill from Pelosi, Reid, Obama hurts US business. We elected a US President of this country, not a leader of the world.

It doesn't matter what the News reports or doesn't report. The important thing is that conservatives are aware of what is going on and it's going to backfire on the Dems this next election cycle. We are going to have a swing like we haven't seen in decades. Cleaning house...the news isn't covering that either, but I know how fired up everybody is.

Hello all. I read several posts about the energy bill not being talked about on Fox. That is exactly where I heard about it. They warned about the Waxman bill last night - the 25th.

In response to Tyler...welcome to the controlled right/left paradigm my friend. The manufactured opposition to make the American public think they have an advocate in the mainstream media, portioning out little nuggets of info here and there for us to stop and chew on, keeping us from going further down the rabbit hole. (Kind of like giving a dog a small piece of turkey in his bowl so he doesn't pester you for what's on the table while you're eating...and you better believe that's how they think of us). Bickering networkds like Fox News and MSNBC are just shows designed to give the illusion of dissent and real debate, and nothing more.

Wakeup America… the passage of the Cap and Tax bill now clearly demonstrates what collection of political prostitutes headed by the illustrious Nancy Pelosi, Madam, of the House of Representatives. We now need to add those eight Republican that voted in favor of the Cap and Tax Bill to the roster of the new political prostitutes. The passage of this bill shows even a bigger danger to the freedoms in this country. There is seems to be a powerful force driving the new political prostitutes that occupy many of the seats in congress. And what is this force? It clear, a new bread the new of powerful pimps in the Whitehouse driving this pimping of America. As each day passes Whitehouse appears to be changing to a brighter hue of red. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, there is now an RED IRON Curtin in more ways that one descending upon America. It is now time for real freedom loving Americans to call out the vice squad at the next election and clean both house top to bottom!

The really sad thing about this bill is that it will not do much for the environment unless every other country does the same. Do you think they will? I don't. Americans will be paying for it all. Nice. But we voted for him now, didn't we?! (Well, not me, but as a nation we did). You get what you vote for.
