Sir Christopher Monckton: Copenhagen treaty eviscerates U.S. sovereignity

By: Mark Tapscott

Sir Christopher Monckton is a global warming skeptic. Former Vice President and Nobel Prize winner Al Gore has for years refused to accept Monckton's repeated challenge to a public debate on global warming.

He's also a very close reader of the proposed UN Climate Change Treaty President Obama is expected to sign along with other world leaders in Copenhagen in a few weeks. Monckton says that 200-page treaty cedes U.S. sovereignity to the UN, mandates a massive transfer of wealth from the U.S. and Europe to pay our "Climate Debt" to the Third World, and creates a new enforcement mechanism to make it all happen.

Is Monckton right? I don't know because I haven't yet read the treaty (But I soon will be). Here's his warning about the Copenhagen Treaty, and here's the draft text of the treaty. Judge for yourself.

pg 139 of teh draft agreement has a program that pays the oil exporting countries money!!! Think about it, they stop pumping the oil that made them filthy rich, and they keep getting money to use to attack us with, even though they are no longer selling us anything. Bizarre.

Where is the legitimate coverage of this issue? Telling us there's a debate without the counter-argument? B.S.
Why is there only one voice? Why is no one else coming forward? Surely more than one person has read the 181 page pdf?

Only caring for one's own independence and sovereignty can easily transform into selfishness. Of course, selfishness is a phenomenon of nature too. But it has a consequence of first consuming the victim of the selfishness, and sure enough one day the selfish being itself.

It is telling that Al Gore has consistantly refused to publically debate his man-made global-warming theories with Monckton - and many other critics among the vast collection of so-called "deniers." Why?

Oct 21, 2009

Are you serious, Dev?
Ok, not sure what that even means! Monckton is a Brit...how is his warning to America selfish? Or is it selfish of American's having a problem with sending our hard earned tax dollars to another nation without anything in return? Maybe you should take your communist blathering to a communist country that is already formed? Your illogic is destroying our nation.

Regardless of whether you agree with this idiocy -- 'global warming' and 'obama's apparent desire to sign this insidious un treaty' -- I ask you obama/gore/marx supporters this simple question: Where is it cited in the US Constitution the provision for the federal government to claim the authority to sign over our national soveriegnty to the moonbats at the un; or to take over our healthcare system; or to mandate that all US citizens must purchase health insurance; or to determine the salary of private sector businessmen and -women; etc... Here's a hint: It ain't there. Here's another question: Why do you suppose it is that not one of the masses of "reporters" who have daily access to obama, reed, pelosi, et al, are willing to ask that same question of our so-called leaders? Just a thought...

Treaties need to be ratified by Congress, don't they? Or did I miss something and Congress already did?

The secession of powers to the UN or other nations is in contravention to the Constitution; surely if he signs it there is SOMETHING we can do...?

Dev- caring for one's independence is selfishness? You've got a sick idea of what selfishness is. I suppose charity is being subservient to the state or other people? Sick.

Reed

There are different kinds of treaties, or rather, the word "treaty" is used differently in the US constitution than it is internationally. There are treaties that *do* need to be ratified by congress, but this is a "sole executive agreement" under US law. That is, a treaty that need only be ratified by the president.

Keep in mind guys, it's not really unprecedented that the US make such agreements and it doesn't necessarily confer national sovereignty. All that is being agreed to are the policies in the treaty. Now, you can debate those particular policies all you want, but "world government" is nothing more than unfortunate wording. Point is, the US will still be an independent state and no other policies can be imposed on us by this particular treaty.

Reed's comments are exactly on point - nothing in the draft treaty signs away the US's (or any other country') sovereignty to a world "government" organization. Having leafed through this draft, it appears to be a very long way from being final, much less in a form ready for ratification; and even if adopted, it outlines commitments, objectives and goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating their effects. To state, as Sir Monckton does, that signing off on the treaty will "eviscerate" US sovereignty is absolutely irresponsible, particularly from someone supposedly familiar with international agreement processes; it is above all misleading and does nothing to advance a rational discussion of this issue. My question is whose interest he's been hired to represent to make these kinds of comments; I can tell you he's NOT doing it out of the goodness of his heart or a moral obligation to save civilization.

Very simple- why should the global profiteers and polluters want to have limits on their exploitation of energy. For them it will always be greed and control over a safe healthy environment for humanity.

Think about the introduction of any new tax. They tell you it's so little so that you're okay with it. Then it grows and grows until it is a system of its own. If you think this won't happen with a worldwide agreement also, you're fooling yourself.

I can't believe you guys are arguing over whether we will lose our sovereigty
as a nation or not. The first issue at hand is that Global Warming is a "LIE". IIt can be proven as a "LIE", and the fact that Al Gore and his Cronies will not debate such an important threat to our world and civilization proves it alone. "LIE" "LIE" "LIE". It no wonder that we are faced with these kinds of issues, because the majority of you/us are just "Sheep" "BBEEEEEPPP"

Page 18 #38 does set up 3 pillars of government, and there are other unsettling references that could be seen as the beginning of a world government. I'm taking one sentence out of context, but still--phrases like "Establishing the rule of law through means and processes for enforcement." do not make me feel that the focus is purely "climate control." Beyond that, I don't like the idea of government--any government--thinking it can produce positive results. It never has, never will. It's always the ingenuity and generosity of the private sector that actually gets results.

Linda

Nov 4, 2009

Ron, people focus on the potential loss of sovereignty because it's more fundamental than whether or not the "cause" of climate change is CO2. I believe any climate change we're seeing is not man-caused, but if our nation is at risk with the swipe of a pen...

Climategate

Let's see:

a) subverting the peer review process
b) stacking the UN IPCC
c) obstruction of the Freedom on Information Act
d) breach of university and state ethics codes

... and we haven't even talked about the data yet.

Climate Science - the new Ponzi scheme!

p.s. - Is this what Science is all about? Meet the new boss (science), same as the old boss (religion). When are they issuing funny hats to scientists?
p.p.s. - Who needs Wall Street when you have Science?

Why isn't the document linked directly from the UN website? Why is it I can't find it on any other website?

FYI, Lord Monckton has no scientific background - he's originally a journalist. I can't take this guy seriously.
