What happened to Obamamania?

By: Michael Barone

Where have all those Obamenthusiasts who were so visible in 2008 been hiding this year? In this New Republic article Lydia DePillis seems to think that the problem is that Organizing For America has been run as a top-down organization, rather than as a bottom-up movement, giving the folks out there no sense of ownership. She asks, “Can a grassroots organization run in the top-down style of a political machine really accomplish much—let alone change the terms of debate on any given issue?”

I think there’s something more going on here. Many Obamenthusiasts were thrilled by the idea of putting Obama in and getting George W. Bush out. They achieved their goal a year ago. What more is left? Did these people really expend all this energy to reduce the percentage of people without health insurance? “We are the change we are seeking,” Obama said during the campaign. Well, the Obamenthusiasts got that change. Now they can go back to gardening or Sudoku. If this view is right, it doesn’t matter much whether Organizing for America is lodged in the Democratic National Committee or not, or whether it’s run top-down or bottom-up—the issues DePillis considers critical. If people aren’t motivated to do an unnatural thing—and engaging in political activity is for most people an unnatural thing—they won’t do it.

The liberal conservatives that I know voted for Obama are the first ones to send me jokes about him and the healthcare fiasco. They regret their vote...they're coming back home and next year the Dems and Rinos are in for a fight. Our revolt has legs.

They have gone back to what they were doing. Living in Mom's basement. Playing video games, collecting government checks. Although, some are taking their Liberal Arts class, at the college, part time professional students, drawing a government check.

I so look forward to not only watching the Dems get thrashed in 2010, but to read all the desperate exclamations by the liberal media how 2010 is not a referendum on Obama.

Unfortunately in California, the land of the permanently delusional human, Obama stickers, even Kerry-Edwards stickers are still on people's bumpers.

The truth is that we have a Fascist Chicago thug in the White House supported by union goons, czars, and a bunch of corrupt gangsters in the US Congress. They make Madoff look like an amateur thief. Jack

Hey, don't be so harsh on those Obama stickers; they are a lot like "Student Driver" warnings. Personally I am getting a Goldwater '64 sticker and thereby repudiating the 20th and 21st centuries.

A lot of them got excited because they thought they were going to get a lot of expensive presents from Obama Claus.

Now they find out that Obama is just a fake Santa Claus with an empty bag. Nobody likes a fake Santa Claus with an empty bag.

The same thing happened in Germany, before WWll. The difference is that we will stop OUR Hitler, before he has the ability to destroy our country, unlike the Germans of their era. Germany was in such dire straits, partly due to the reparations they were being forced to pay, for starting the war, that eventually the Mark became absolutely worthless, and the German people were so desperate, that they would believe and follow ANYONE who could give them hope.
America was never in that position, but the Obamaniacs are doing their best to convince us that we are. In that way they can take us over, and form us into the totally submissive "new Germany". There are many who question how can anyone make so many "mistakes" as Obama.
He's not making any mistakes, he's following the Communist Manifesto to the letter, and hiring America haters, to further that end.

I live in St. Louis, MO. I see more and more "Order to Vacate" signs on houses. I see restaurants less and less crowded. I see 4-plex movie theatres and furniture stores closed up. I see malls with small crowds on the weekends, nearly deserted on weekdays. Somehow Obamamania seems like some kind of dream (or nightmare, depending on your political point of view). Reality is setting in. Obama and his crew have no idea how to run a business, much less a government. Obama reminds me of the idiot professors I had in college - they thought they knew everything, but virtually none of them had an experience outside the classroom. In other words, they knew nothing about the real world. Putting Obama into the Oval Office was kind of like putting the guy in the Intern program into the CEO's office. I think a lot of my college friends are beginning to realize that. They just won't admit it. It's tough to admit your parents were right and you were wrong, isn't it, Obamabots?

Last year some guy in our neighborhood posted a humongous Obama sign in his back yard, facing the interstate. You couldn't miss it a mile away. He went around the neighborhood with his little clipboard, asking questions and singing Obama's praises. Now the sign is gone. I saw him at the grocery store, and ignored him. He got in my face and forced me to say hello to him, so I asked him, "How's that vote for Obama working out, Dave?" His response was, "You guys lost. Get over it." But his face was red when he said it, and he walked away. I didn't see much pride in his demeanor. All I saw was anger, and embarrassment. Isn't that strange? His team won. What's he got to be angry about?

There was a lot of money pumped into the obama campaign by big labour, a lot of those cheering people you saw when he was running were big labour people, some even paid to be there.

Deapster

Nov 1, 2009

The Obama vote was primarily an anti-establishment vote. A poke a stick in the eye of ones parents vote. There was nothing positive about it.

Except for the massive union vote that drove the machine who only had their hands out for the goodies that have not yet been dispensed regardless of SEIU union thug being Obama's top visitor to move the levers behind this POTUS fraud.

Deapster

Nov 1, 2009

I said it last year and I will say it again. The only internal consistency Obama has is whether what he does creates more union jobs or not. If a decision creates union jobs he is in favor of it. If it does not he dithers away any choice. Obama can't find a way to turn Afghanistan into union jobs at US government expense.

He and SEIU union boss Andy Stern are preplexed as the share more White House visits than any other human being. Gee, who would have guessed the Obama/Stern sock puppet would be so easily exposed.

I don't know anyone who voted for Obama that would do the same today. The change they wanted was mostly to get rid of Bush, not all this remaking of America into the Soviet Union before Reagan.

I was at Walmart today--my favorite store. While waiting to check out, I picked up a tabloid that talked about a young boy at a town hall meeting asking Obama why eberybody hates him. I don't know if "everybody hates him", but a lot of Americans have utterly stopped believing anything he says, and worse, have stopped believing that he knows what he is doing. A grwoing number of Americans are beginning to realize that this man gained office by fraud: he is no "liberal"; he is a revolutionary who, with his Chicago thugs, intend to remake this country.

A conservative is a Liberal that got mugged by reality------welcome back liberals. Perhaps, now, you will be more understanding, and protective of the word "freedom". "Obama's W. H. is riding to and fro upon tigers(Liberals, Unions) and dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry."

Like me, many people who voted for Obama are ashamed at being duped. Every day it seems that the economy is getting worse, and race relations have really taken a down turn. I am now even starting to worry that there will be some "crisis" which will prevent us from being able to vote him out. The Obama administration with their parties and trip reminds me of Marie Antoinette. I am so sorry America.

Steve G

erslo,
The Weimar Republic chose to inflate the mark in order to pay war reparations on the cheap, in the process of which they destroyed the middle class. As a result, Germany was thrown into tumult and Hitler, when he arrived, was seen as a force for stability and growth. That was why he was wildly popular in Germany throughout the 30's.

This is what obozo knows: get the job, do very little in order to stay out of trouble, then move up to the next job. Unfortunately the formula for building your resume doesn't really work for being an effective president of the United States. Well, unfortunately for us, mostly.

Serious question- to all those saying "I didn't know I was voting for this when I voted for Obama"-- how could conservatives have done a better job at laying it out? Everything he is doing now is stuff I heard warnings about during the campaign. So, I really want to know what needs to happen differently in order to have that message actually be heard?

To: FED UP WITH IDIOTS---cut it out. It's clear now that government has been running FOR SOME TIME NOW on corrupt principles. The party in power rams legislation through (including all the pork) because they can. It's like a big sociology experiment with you and me as test subjects. My outrage flares every time I see Conyers snear about the fools who think Congressmen should read bills.
We need to vote in people who promise not to vote on bills until their read AND UNDERSTOOD. If the people writing them cannot put them in common language, then we need to get people who can. I think history will show that we've put up with these buffoons on both sides for a ridiculously long time.We need a campaign demanding "READ OR RESIGN".
It's up to We The People now.

Why this country thinks universal suffrage is a good idea is beyond me. An army of ignoramuses, freeloaders, and naifs put Obama into office, generally with no consideration of his qualifications or the consequences of radical leftist government in the United States and mostly just because he was not the icky George Bush.

Concern4Constitution

I think it is very brave of people who voted for O to say so and say that it was a mistake. I'm glad they are awake now--I'm glad there are many more people awake now about everything going on in government--its not just the W.H. its Congress, state & local too! Memebers of my family that voted for him are now standing beside me at protests! If it wasn't for the obvious deceptions that everyone is seeing now, we may have continued in our complacency--now everyone know U.S. citizenry requires ACTIVE participation!

Nov 1, 2009

I was irked at Bush. Oh, not the leftie 'lied about WMD' propaganda - everyone fell for the WMD info. I was disappointed on his stance on illegal immigration and that he didn't veto the Congress' wasteful spending bills. I always believed he was an honest, decent man and could never figure out why he never defended himself against the daily onslaught of the left. I wanted to believe BHO was a decent man also. I did not vote for him as I couldn't see how in the world he was qualified to be POTUS when he really had no job experience. Turns out he is a decent man if you like the Marxist type. He really wants to socialize this country and in the process will ruin the American economy. We need to get rid of this man and his supporters.

Obama was the "American Idol" candidate in every respect. He himself is now "governing" like he won the the prize in a reality show, playing golf every week and taking his wife on Air Force One dates to Paris with no sense of responsibility for actually accomplishing anything. Many of his supporters are acting the same way... Obama's last year's winner -- old news -- who are the new contestants for next season.

To jd - Why did you vote for Obama and with all the information out there about BHO, why didn't you know what to expect? This president is putting our country in peril and we, as a nation, need to know how to prevent him from winning a 2nd term.

I agree with LauralVW, the problem with our government is they are ALL part of the corrupted incantation that now exists. We need to clean house (no pun intended) and start anew. Unfortunately, grass roots movements like GOOOH - while well intentioned and well directed - have monumental obstacles to overcome. Winning the House - where all the bills originate - would be huge if for no other reason than to invoke term limits on congress. But until the two party system becomes a legitimate three party system, these professional politicians (of both parties) will continue to run (ruin?) our lives.

GB may not have been the best president, but one thing he truly was (and still is) is a decent, honest man. He took a lot of heat about the WMD business, but I truly believe those WMDs were (and still are) in Iraq. Lord knows, Saddam was given enough warning that the inspectors were going to go in looking for them. You can be sure they are buried in a cave in Afghanistan / Pakistan / pick your favorite desert mountain country. And after 9/11, we can look at individuals as WMDs. . . .
Obama is a loser who doesn't know how to do anything but campaign. Witness his trip to NJ to help reelect a thug governor instead of making a decision about Afghanistan.

It took a Carter to get a Reagan. If we can just hold out and survive for a few more years we may get another Reagan, and Obimbo could turn out to be a good thing. I live in the one party state of Hawaii, the heart of ObamaLand and I was just thinking last week how I don't see nearly as many Obama bumper stickers as a year ago, hardly see any these days. I too voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976. Fortunately I was 16, in HS and stoned. As I watched him and a Democrat Congress tear this country apart I learned to research candidates and use my choice wisely. I also learned that sometimes that little voice in the corner that reflects reality is the smart way to go.
