Will ObamaCare cover abortions? Despite a promise, it's still unclear.

In his health care speech last week, President Obama was emphatic: "[O]ne more misunderstanding I want to clear up," he said. "Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place."

But the White House remains hesitant to commit to legislative language equally explicit, and pro-life groups are still concerned. Dr. Charmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life met with White House officials yesterday, including Melody Barnes, Obama's domestic policy director. She reports back her disappointment with the result.

"Ms. Barnes reiterated the President's statement about opposing abortion funding in his address before Congress last week but the White House would not commit to language that explicitly excludes abortion from health care reform," said Yoest in a written statement. "The reality on the Hill right now is that the health care bills do include abortion funding."

Yoest is correct about this, according to the Associated Press and FactCheck.org. Moreover, House Democrats have defeated such language in committee.

President Obama answered Joe Wilson's "You Lie!" outburst over immigration by committing to a verification mechanism, to ensure that those receiving insurance through his plan are present in the U.S. legally.

Without a similar outburst, can Americans get any solid assurance, beyond the president's say-so, that they won't be forced under a new health care bill to pay for abortions?

The govt should not pay for anything at all

Sep 18, 2009

Why shd the government have any role in health care at all? Abolish Medicare and Medicaid and the Veterans' hospitals. Abolish farm subsidies, corporate subsidies, Social security, and the Dept of Education.

"President Obama said this week that his health care plan won't cover illegal immigrants, BUT argued that's all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage. " How can ANY reasonably intelligent individual place their trust and confidence in ANYTHING this dangerous deceptive and deceitful demagogue says? Obama's rhetoric is carefully programmed on his ubiquitous teleprompters by his handlers to appeal to the venue in which he is CURRENTLY speaking. Unmitigated propaganda. Impeachment simply cannot come soon enough. In the interim, pray that the Obama damage to our Republic will somehow be mitigated. Greg Neubeck

Nothing wrong with illegals

Sep 18, 2009

Blah, blah, illegals, blah, blah. I hire illegal gardeners and nannies and escort girls. I also hire illegals for my business, which has $50 million in annual revenues. I'm so sick and tired of low-income whiners. Free inflows of labor benefit holders of capital--that's standard economic theory. I am a capitalist, so I'm in favor of illegals.

There is NO way a health care bill will pass to cover abortions unless the woman is raped. Even most liberals believe it or not don't support it. Some of my friends are the most liberal but they said there is no way they are paying into a health care coverage plan to cover someone else's abortion. Even the DEMS in Congress know this - they must go with what the public wants.
