Let's NOT meet the Uighurs

President Obama has heeded his generals and decided not to release more photos of prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, and good for him. Now he needs to put our national security ahead of politics once again and reverse his dangerous decision to release trained terrorists currently held at Guantanamo Bay into American suburbs.

America, meet the Uighurs.

Seventeen of the 241 terrorist detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay are Chinese Muslims known as Uighurs. These Uighurs have been allied with and trained by al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups. The goal of the Uighurs is to establish a separate sharia state.

As part of their ongoing effort to close Guantanamo Bay, the Obama administration has had to figure out what to do with the Uighurs. Officials believe that if they’re sent back to China they will be persecuted, and no third country will take them.

So the Obama administration has decided to set the Uighurs loose in America. Most likely, the lucky community that will soon be hosting the Uighurs is a neighborhood near you: Fairfax Country Virginia, where there is already a sizable (non-terrorist) Uighur community.

But the Obama administration’s plan for the Uighurs doesn’t stop there. At Guantanamo Bay, the Uighurs are known for picking up television sets on which women with bared arms appear and hurling them across the room.

Perhaps understandably, the Obama administration believes the Uighurs will need help getting adjusted to northern Virginia society, in which women with bared arms have been known to appear.

So last month Obama Administration Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair indicated that terrorist detainees released into the United States would receive public assistance. “You can’t just put them on the street,” he said.

By their own admission, Uighurs being held at Guantanamo Bay are members of or associated with the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), an al Qaeda-affiliated group designated as a terrorist organization under U.S law.

The goal of the ETIM is to establish a radical Islamist state in Asia. Last year, during the Beijing Olympics, the ETIM released a video in which an ETIM member stood in front of an al Qaeda flag and threatened anyone who attended the games.

Prior to 9/11, the Uighurs received jihadist training in Tora Bora, Afghanistan, a known al Qaeda and Taliban training ground. What’s more, they were trained, most likely in the weapons, explosives and ideology of mass killing, by Abdul Haq, a member of al Qaeda’s shura, or top advisory council. President Obama’s own interagency review board found that at least some of the Uighurs are dangerous.

Notwithstanding the paramount threat posed by the Uighurs, defending them and other terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay has become the trendy thing to do among leftwing civil liberties groups and private practice lawyers looking for fashionable pro bono work.

As a matter of fact, Attorney General Eric Holder’s law firm, Covington and Burlington, represents 17 Yemenis and one Pakistani currently being held at Guantanamo. In all, about a dozen Obama Justice Department lawyers are from private law firms that represent terrorist detainees.

These are the same officials who, led by Holder, are charged with determining the future home of terrorist detainees after Guantanamo closes. As former Federal Prosecutor Andy McCarthy writes, “has it dawned on people yet that it's a huge problem to have a Justice Department stocked with lawyers who have spent (or whose firms have spent) the last eight years volunteering their services to America’s enemies?”

As you would expect, this army of leftwing activists and high-priced lawyers has led a public relations offense on behalf of the Uighurs to convince nervous suburbanites that the former terrorist detainees will make great neighbors. They claim that the Uighurs are harmless Chinese separatists who have been unjustly detained. Their real problem is with the repressive Chinese government, they claim, not us.

But as you can see, the truth about the Uighurs (which you definitely won’t hear from the anti-Guantanamo legal industry) is very different. Contrary to the claims of their defenders, the Guantanamo Uighurs are not pro-democracy activists unjustly held by American authorities.

Even if you accept the argument made by their defenders that the Uighurs’ true targets are Chinese, not Americans, it does nothing to change the fact that they are trained mass killers instructed by the same terrorists responsible for killing 3,000 Americans on September 11, 2001.

They have no place in American communities.

So congratulations to President Obama for defying his radical leftwing base and refusing to release the prisoner abuse photos. Now he should do the same with the Uighurs.

This article is false, slanderous, and dangerous. The author is either clearly bias, or just did not do his research. Oh wait it's Newt Gingrich, HE doesn't need to do research.

I'm pretty confidant the old Newt didn't know anything about Uighurs until very recently, and so since they are new to him, he assumes they are new to his readers, too. That's what allows him to lie about them and their circumstances, and to smear the people who are defending them and offering to help them. Gingrich is a small, petty man. He'll do anything to sell a book or make some money. Pathetic.

There is a community if Uighurs will to take in their own from Gitmo. The Uighurs were turned in for bounties. They can't be returned to China because they would be persecuted and most likely killed. All of the accused, whether in Gitmo or in a regular U.S. jail, should get a defense. That Newt tries to smear the president by saying that Holder's firm has represented those at Gitmo is slanderous. Are all criminal defense attorneys criminals? No. Does Newt think he can get a leg up on a run for president in 2012 or sell a book by having someone write these lies? You betcha.

The assertion that the Uyghurs in Guantanamo Bay are affiliated with Al Qaeda is ridiculous; the notion that Uyghur separatists are in any sense an organized threat is sheer fabrication cooked up by the Chinese government to justify its suppression of Uyghur community groups using the (nebulous and poorly organized) East Turkestan independence movement as an excuse. It is unsurprising to see this sort of opinion coming from someone with the deficit of humanity and compassion that Gingrich has; it is, however, surprising to see someone known for his intelligence so uncritically parroting Chinese talking points that have long since been proven false.

Fairfax County doesn't need any more people, period. I grew up here, and over the course of 3 decades, Jack Herrity & Gerry Connolley sold this previously picturesque county down river to chainsaw-wielding property developers. Gone are the tree-lined highways and antique stores. Instead, we have non-stop townhouses, churches, and strip malls. I say send 50% of residents back to whereever they came from, and bring back the trees.

Wow, here they come to post their idiocy...all the left-wing wackos who will destroy any American that doesn't agree with them on issues like gay marriage or abortion, but can't wait to embrace suspected terrorists. None of these detainees were picked up minding their own business at Disney World, morons. You might want to consider what they were doing when they brought themselves face-to-face with our military in the first place...oh, that's right, you hate our military too. I forgot.

I don't know very much about Uighurs and probably Gingrich doesn't either. What he does know is that the Uighurs were captured by U.S. forces, probably on a battlefield somewhere. That they were trained by Islamic terrorist organizations. That they have ties to terror organizations that have declared war upon the U.S. What more is there to know? I don't personally want to get all touchy feely with the terrorists. Tell ya what, if you like the terrorists you can invite them into your homes. Just make sure your wives, daughters, sisters and mom's wear long sleeved clothes all the time. And walk behind the menfolk. And don't speak unless spoken to. Oh and one more thing, how about knocking off the personal attacks on Gingrich and try sticking to facts.

"What he does know is that the Urghurs were captured by U.S. forces, probably on a battlefield somewhere. That they were trained by Islamic terrorist organizations. That they have ties to terror organizations that have declared war upon the U.S." Except he doesn't "know" that.....all four of those assertions are 100% wrong, as is the TV tossing nonsense. Only someone with no respect whatsoever for the intelligence of his audience would make these fact-free claims, and do so in an inflamatory way. Gingrich has no shame.

Hi guys, I am a Uyghur and I live in Australia. I do not want to criticise Newt Gingrich. I just want to ask you guys some simple questions: what would you do if "your" government had 46 times nuclear tests in your soil, ...if your government had taken millions of young girls as cheap labours... if your government had banned your language even in kindergartens...if your government banned going to church. If you have not heard about Uyghurs, please contact any uyghur community around you. I believe that you will be our good mate. Thanks guys.

Gingrich is announcing at normal volume what Obama dares only whisper: this Administration is actually preparing to release terrorists into our cities. Americans have died defending our rights at the hands of these illegal combatant types - so, we said, the war would be fought over there and not over here. Now the war is over here and Obama brought it here. The Chinese al-Qaeda is here and Obama brought them here. Something bad is bound to happen, and when it does, it's all on the head of the American leader - left or right, I can't believe he was really that stupid.

Fact: American government supported Afghan Talibans in their fight against the Soviet Union during the 1980s. The Talibans were our closest buddies. But now these fanatics have turned their guns on us. Question: Do we want to give support to the sons of Talibans in their drive to establish another Islamic terrorist organization that one day may turn their guns on us? You decide.

Mr. Gingrich, while I disagree with you on many issues, I have to agree with you on this issues. These guys were caught in either terrorist training camps or in combat. Their organization has repeatedly announced their affiliation and idealogy with al Qaeda, for the destruction of all infidels. To believe in their new found anti-chinese only, but not anti-US excuse is at best naive and stupid. ship them away and let them rot in any jail outside America.

Anyone who thinks these men are a threat to the United States are playing into the hands of Chinese communist propaganda. This is part of the same package of lies that would have you believe the Dalai Lama is a terrorist and Taiwanese are warmongers. If you READ the US DoD's own position on these men, it is CLEAR they had no affiliation with Al Qaeda, and no intent to harm the US. So let's not play into the Chicoms' hands...we should give these men a home for compensation of 7 years of wrongful imprisonment and to show the world we can tell the difference between terrorists and muslims.

Probably were in Afghanistan to set up a chinese halal take out service for the terrorists?
Their geographical location from international gave them choices to cross into Pakistan or India (a democracy) or Pakistan (less volatile) than Afghanistan, but they chose to be and were caught amongst the terrorist aliments in Afghanistan. I am sure they were not attending Sunday School or baking cookies.

From what I heard, Uighurs and Han have been poking each other for 250 years. I don't know the reasons but it seems that secular governments are definitely not their thing...that said, the Palau idea made sense until someone can determine whether these guys are Bigfoot or Cousin It.

In short, it appears the Uighurs make better examples of the patriotic American than does Gingrich.
