Dennis Miller: Ahem ... All not so quiet on the cable front

By: Dennis Miller
OpEd Contributor
October 30, 2009

Who'd have thought that the heretofore ubermeek Obama administration would attempt the first surge of its tremulous tenure against my Fox News Network? As every demented B-lister in a leopard skin fez and a doorman's outfit from the Plaza Hotel steps up to the psychotic speaker's corner to tear the Great Satan (uh, that would be us) a new one, our guy has been loathe to return rhetorical fire for fear of stepping on any sandaled toes.

But Fox News? That's another story. That's a sitter at the net for the quasimystical LOTUS POTUS. With the mainstream (downstream?) media more in his pocket than a grizzled train conductor's pocket watch, he had to look far and wide for a news organization that had not signed a 5 W's abrogation/suicide pact with David Axelrod. And there stood Fox, still skeptical of public officials and under the stellar rein of Brit Hume, still skilled in the ways of good old-fashioned "Woodstein" shoe leather journalism.

As The New York Times scribes stand fawning behind the sawhorses placed beneath Ringo-bama's top-floor window hoping for some acknowledgment, a glimpse, a smile, a hanky, something, anything!!!!! to drift down from the Great One's penthouse, Fox continues to grind. As the Secret Service actually contemplates filing a restraining order against some of BO's more amped-up devotees in the liberal press, Shep, Chris Wallace and the boys loom, eyebrows raised higher than a Rastafarian at a Phish concert.

Listen, I don't believe President Obama to be anything other than a patriot. I don't think of him as evil, malevolent, Machiavellian or subversive. None of the above. And I most definitely don't think of him as (oh my God!) my black president. He's my president, pure and simple, so please fold the race card back into the deck if your intent at the end of this column was to post a comment trying to Oddjob my carotid artery out with that tired old ploy. What I do think is that the president is just plain wrong in his approach to Fox. I not only think he is wrong, but as we say in the comedian trade, I think he has a "premise problem."

In his rush to humble America in the eyes of the world, he strives to placate every mook coming down the midway with a bullied nation in their hip pocket and in turn supplant them in the villain column with a national news agency whose most egregious error would appear to be not swooning every time he opens his "wiser than thou" piehole to speak in encyclical.

What's wrong with this picture? The waiting room outside Dr. Obama's Snake Oil Emporium is populated by the likes of General McChrystal, the Dalai Lama and Fox News, meanwhile Kadaffi, Chavez and Aqua-velvajad are walking around backstage with All-Access laminates. Not since Lana Turner hooked up with Johnny Stompanato has a great star exhibited such poor taste in men.

Obama's play is to downsize as far as American chest-thumping goes. I happen to believe we have oodles to be proud of, he feels the nation would be better off as the lion that squeaked. But if in lieu of engaging our actual enemies, he believes he'd rather pick a fight with a straw man, he has definitely misidentified the Obi-Wan Kenobi of Fox News, Roger Ailes.

You see, a straw man is a straw man because he usually has no spine. Ailes has a spine made of a substance that they use to cut titanium. Ailes makes Rahm Emanuel look like an Amish Lamaze instructor and if they're gonna lock antlers with Ailes, they'd best wear a cup.

Gotta go now. Gibbs (that's Sgt. Shultz to you) is coming to the podium and I anticipate a little incoming. Just gonna have to dig my Fox-hole a smidge deeper tonight. "The horror ... the horror."

Comedian and commentator extraordinaire Dennis Miller appears regularly in the "Miller Time" segment of "The O'Reilly Factor "on Fox News, as well as his own daily talk radio show heard on more than 250 stations across the country.

Well said, Dennis. I'd love to see a major lawsuit filed against the WH for their smear tactics. . . .

I disagree. Foxnews is home of O'Reilly and others who just spew out garbage and dirty the water even more so you can't find the facts. The one reporter that I have some respect for is Geraldo Rivera (ironically after his 90's talk shows) after reading his new book which made him respectable in my view. It would be nice though if WaPo and NYT would be more scientific in their reporting and leave bias out as much as possible.

Dennis,
You're way to kind, and besides Rueben and his people cannot understand your wit...otherwise they would not be Dims. Amad Rashad said it best when he said, I was a dimocrat when I was young and naive but I grew up and got educated and now I get it. There is a right and a wrong.

It will take CNN four days just to translate what you said, and that's with their Jeopardy brain trust working day and night.

Oh Reuben! The shows of which you speak are OPINION shows. MSNBC have them too. They all do. The shows on Fox just don't have the lips of the host firmly placed betwixt the cheeks of Obama.

As usual ,Dennis is right on the money with his insight into Obama's hatred of anyone who speaks ill of his policies or utterances.
what is going to happen now that the AP and of all people CBS are questioning him? I for one can't wait to see if they also become non-news outlets.

I always want to shout "MORE, MORE" when I read one of Dennis Miller's rants. I agree with everything he said EXCEPT I do not believe Obama is a "Patriot." He believes this country is fundamentally flawed, perhaps even EVIL, and has an agenda to Redistribute the Wealth and level the playing field with his vision of Social Justice. He is hell bent on killing our free market capitalism and has hired a gaggle of weirdo's, communist's, marxist's, Mao-loving Dingbat's, and radical, race-baiting, Cop-Killer-loving "Truther" moron's like Van Jones to help him achieve this goals. He is a danger to our Republic and our Constitution and will be neutered in 2010 and given the BOOT in 2012. Other that that, Dennis, you are right on.

Great Rant Dennis, but you were way too kind. I suppose Obama doesn't want to ruin the country and run us in the ditch, it just looks that way on all fronts right now.

I suppose I'll believe otherwise when Obama tells me over the internet during one of his mandatory webcasts to the nation. Anybody not logged in will face a fine or go to jail.

Dennis,

Obamugabe is not a patriot. He is malevolent and evil as are his coattail riders. Nothing they have ever written, said, or done comports with a decent, moral, civilized person much less a patriot. Do not worry about being labelled a racist. It is a free country, and no one can make you or me like or admire someone who despises our country and culture. I do not care if they are colored or not.

Perhaps instead of attacking each other over our political views we should be viewing the real threat.

The fact that America isn't a Direct Democracy. I say we demand every bill or act to be voted on by the people.

No matter how minimal or large the act or bill is it should be voted on by the people.

Mad Monica

Oct 31, 2009

A patriot? Sorry, Dennis. Any man who refuses to wear a flag pin while he runs for the office that represents said flag around the world fails to qualify as a patriot to me. Patriots are folks like those who came to Andrews the other night, not with a cadre of cameras, but in coffins having given their very lives for the flag Obama refused to wear.

Mad Monica

Oct 31, 2009

Oh yeah, and let me add: Any man who spends more time denigrating his country all the while enjoying the luxuries that country has given him qualifies, imho, not as a patriot but as an ungrateful, spiteful rube. The day this man can admit he's wrong and accept blame for his own actions, I might begin to change my mind.

Uh, OK....

Oct 31, 2009

Mad Monica...you are an idiot. John McCain, the guy who spent years being tortured in a POW camp while serving his country, refused to wear a flag pin while running for that same office. Is he not a patriot? Is he an "ungrateful, spiteful rube"? Monica...people like you, those that are more hung up on symbolism than they are about substance, are exactly what's wrong with this country. And tell us, oh wonderful Monica...what exactly have YOU done for this country of ours? How have you served our nation...besides wearing a flag pin, of course.

MJBrutus

Oct 31, 2009

Listen, I don't believe President Obama to be anything other than a patriot.

Can you be a patriot and resent the ideals our nation was founded on? Can a patriot resent a free market, capitalist economy? Can a patriot resent the fact that our Constitution lacks a laundry list of obligations (free health care, free college, free housing, free beer) and instead lays out the blue print for a limited government? Can a patriot kow-tow to every swinging dick of a dictator and abuse our democratic, rule of law friends?

I have a hard time reconciling that with patriotism. He may not be "evil", but there is no doubt in my mind that he has no love for the ideals that founded and made this nation of ours the greatest and most free country the world has ever know.

Dear Shawn - You are correct. The USA is not a 'direct Democracy.'

Oct 31, 2009

MJBrutus, Obama is evil of a quite sort and his policies will harm the United States. He uses our money to buy votes from the masses dumb down by his leftist forces that destroyed our education system, ruined the family to help produce generations lack any real morals, and than dazzle us to think everything is okay when the building is burning and the emergency exits are poor marked or hidden. His support of the "Obamacare" shows just how evil he really is and he is no patriot! They will destroy close to 17% of our economy with lies and snake oil! Just reading a sections of that bill proves they don't want reform!

Most of his private records have been sealed and the so-called media failed to reveal the truth of the guy's beliefs.

Who knew Dennis Miller owned Fox? Thought that was Rupert Murdock. Insert "Fox" for "New York Times" and Bush for Obama and you're far closer to the truth.

At least the press is no longer being fed the questions like they were in Bush's term. Nor are male escorts given press credentials and fake names and allowed to ask planted fawning questions at press conferences.

It is truely laughable that Fox is whining now and their shills like Miller spouting the GOP party line. They're not excluded from press events or access to the President. They've just lost their favored status and are angry that the President is calling them what they are.

"I don't believe President Obama to be anything other than a patriot." Dennis, please define patriot for us...

Yephora, the original word was "parrot". Unfortunately, the spell checker inserted "patriot" instead of just correcting the intended word, and this got by the Examiner's editors.

Poor reuben,Oct 30, 2009 "I disagree".

Sounds like he is waiting for the rest of his family to sneak across the border. Whining about O'Reilly is laughable enough, but having the Huff send him over here just goes to show how desperate people are to prevent freedom of speech. I'd be upset too, if my parents named me after a sandwich. Say hi to your stepsister for me. Trifecta, right?

As its been said: "Where all think alike, no one thinks very much."
That sums up those who wish to silence the likes of Dennis Miller and FOX (et al).
Personally, I LOVE discourse: when Bush was in, I read many a liberal rant and enjoyed the pokes at the POTUS.
Now that the House is home to a liberal, I get my visceral thrill from Mr. Miller, O'Reilley and the like.
Great rant, Dennis!
Could not agree more!

Ah, Mr. Miller, your efforts to ensure your paycheck have greatly dulled your once even-keeled wit.

It's about time someone called FOX out. Jon Stewart can't do ALL the work in pointing out the hypocrisy of FOX news. When a news network spends all it's time and effort trying to focus it's lemming audience on tea as opposed to Wall Street and Banking corruption, it has officially lost all credibility.
