Miss California is the Left’s new Sarah Palin

As our nation struggles with its worst recession in decades, a beauty pageant runner-up, who most Americans probably never heard of three weeks ago, is attracting national headlines.

Such seems absurd given the low interest in these events let alone the improbability of anyone caring about the views expressed by the contestants during the question and answer phase.

Let’s face it: people tuning in to watch such a spectacle aren’t doing so to get a tutorial on current events and pressing issues of the day.

Defying such conventional wisdom though is Miss California, aka Carrie Prejean, who ever since honestly answering Perez Hilton’s gotcha question about same-sex marriage at April 19’s Miss USA pageant has been the subject of over 800 news stories, most of them filled with hatred for this unlikely tragic figure.

The newest attacks include a supposedly salacious picture of the model wearing only pink panties. Although this is a rear view with her arms covering enough of her breasts to avoid a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction and subsequent scrutiny by the FCC, the Left have seized on it claiming she’s a hypocrite to pose so scantily-clad.

The pornographic web site that uncovered the picture quipped, “Looks like your dirty photo shoot makes you a sinner too.” Then, Hilton hysterically asked at his smutty website, “What Would Jesus Say About This????”

And NBC’s “Today” show proclaimed, “Racy photos of the Miss USA runner-up have surfaced, and some say they've gone too far; too far for NBC News to broadcast.”

Imagine that. A picture significantly less provocative than those found in Victoria’s Secret catalogues and Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions has gone too far for NBC News to broadcast.

You’ve got to be kidding!

And what nerve of a model who has done photo-shoots for Target, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom to allow herself to be used to advertise women’s lingerie.

If this makes here a sinner, then virtually every model in America who believes in God should be immediately fired, and all who desire to be in this profession in the future should have to prove their atheism or agnosticism by burning a Bible or spitting on a Torah.

Of course, that’s not going to happen, as the outrage over these pictures is a smokescreen hiding the real truth.

Much like Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Prejean represents a threat to the liberal establishment, for here’s another bright, attractive, outspoken woman whose views just don’t fit into the stereotypical box the Left has created for those who disagree with them.

As a result, she needs to be smeared and smeared good, for much as liberals used Palin as a clarion call to scare folks from voting for Sen. John McCain in last November’s presidential race, Prejean now represents fodder for gay rights activists, and she needs to be pummeled on a regular basis to further their goals.

Irrespective of one’s position on this social issue, of much greater concern should be this strategy by the Left to attack and silence all those who disagree with them.

After all, Prejean’s views on gay marriage are decidedly mainstream. A recent Quinnipiac University Poll found 55 percent of registered voters opposing proposals to allow same-sex couples to marry.

As only 38 percent said they’d support such legislation, it is indeed those attacking and looking to silence Prejean who are in the minority.

But even that is beside the point, for once we decide that only popular views are allowed to be expressed in our country the United States of America will cease to exist.

In response to this most recent attack against Prejean, the National Organization for Marriage’s Maggie Gallagher accurately stated, “The level of hatred directed at her is astonishing.”

Maybe so, but after what we saw directed at Palin last year, Americans should no longer be surprised how far the Left are willing to go to achieve their goals.

It's telling, that to Mr. Sheppard, Sarah Palin seems like a bright woman.

First the left attacks Palin, then they attack TEA Party participants, then the Dept of Homeland Security lists returning war veterans as possible enemies of the state, and now they attack Miss California. Essentially, the left has decided that their real enemies are other Americans, and not Middle Eastern fanatics whom they are pushing to have released from Gitmo.

Do you ever research your facts before you report? There are more photos that were taken down from TMZ because the Beauty Queen said she was 17. They were topless and not like the ones that were shown. So yes, no we are not kidding you.

I absolutely agree. The Main Stream Media is an out-of-controlled propaganda organ of the power-drunk Left Wing. You have to wonder if they are aware that the public has already lost trust in them.

David Blaster makes a typical Lefty claim (wihtout any proof). Where is your proof mr. blaster? You don't have it? Why am I not surprised.

I sooo tired of the false dichotomy argument always trotted out by the Left. You can only be a hedonist or a perfect puritan. Naturally the hedonist can do anything. But one sin, no matter how minor, from the puritan and the puritan has no right to say anything about morals anymore! It's pure sophistry that drives me crazy.

What Prejean has done by posing nude has discredited her stand for marriage. It is possible NOT to accept work that will compromise your core values. I do, as a born again Christian, appreciate her stand on marriage; she has done it at great risk to her career - I applaud her for that. But at the same time because of the nude imagery, she discredits the Gospel by contradicting it the world. However, with that said, it is blatantly obvious that the liberal attack machine was specifically called in to attack and discredit her stand for marriage. I have watched her answer from the Miss USA pageant and rewatched it wondering what the offense was. Then it came to me, she represents all the godless liberal hates. A faith in God, country and core values.

The article seems to suggest that Carrie Prejean's semi-nude pics are acceptable and her morality should not be judged because of it. Very odd.

On the contrary, Christian, Ms. Prejean's situation uplifts the message of the Gospel. Anyone can be forgiven for their past mistakes. The only thing we are asked to do is proclaim the Truth, and Carrie Prejean has done that with bravery. I only recall one person in the Bible that was perfect from birth. The reality is that none of us can live up to that. It is a misconception that Christians are better people than everyone else. We are not. We just know how to be forgiven. Mr. Sheppard hit the nail on the head with this article, (which is not about religion, but about freedom, by the way). When we are shunned from society because of our thoughts and beliefs (which Carrie was asked about, she did not volunteer), we have lost what made this country great.

I would disagree with the statement that most of the 800 news stories are filled with hatred. I have read some of them, and for the most part they appear to be reasonable. I think that this writer is looking for a story that does not exist.

Where does the Right keep getting these morons: Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and now this Carrie Prejean? Are they all graduates of Jesus Camp or something?
