David Keene: White House crackdown on dissent means honeymoon is over

By: David Keene

Americans are finally getting a good look at the man in the White House. They've been thrilled by his speeches, love his kids, and almost desperately want to believe he was who they hoped he was when they elected him. It turns out, however, that he simply can't tolerate disagreement.

In his view, those who disagree with him really ought to just shut up. His critics, after all, are the people responsible for the problems he was elected to solve, dupes and hirelings of those responsible, or dangerous kooks.

The administration has moved to discredit those who oppose his health care policies, for example, by labeling them neo-Nazis, right wing lunatics, or witting or unwitting tools of giant insurance companies. "I don't want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking," the President told a crowd of supporters in Virginia last week, "I want them to get out of the way."

His Congressional allies are parroting this line to explain the opposition to Obama's policies at town hall meetings. Some have cancelled these meetings altogether or are screening attendees to exclude the President's critics.

Meanwhile, "Health Care for America," a left-wing pressure group started by the likes of ACORN and the AFL-CIO last week issued advice to Obama supporters who might attend a meeting where someone actually musters the courage to question the wisdom of the Obama health reforms.

"We don't need to ... answer their accusations point by point. Instead, we should treat them as agents of the insurance lobbyists," says the group, adding: "The people who show up are far right ideologues recruited by paid organizers ... funded by industry lobbyists and public relations firms to engage radical rightwing groups."

The bottom line: Discredit the President's critics. And while you're at it, advises the group, help "friendly" Members of Congress by packing their meetings with friends and "shut down" hostile questioners by "chants that counter their message like "Health Care Can't Wait."

These tactics were nowhere more evident than at a recent town hall meeting in Tampa where union goons beat up one questioner and a Democratic Party official assaulted another. Amazingly, however, in spite of the threats, people are still showing up and daring to disagree. This has to worry politicians who have been forced to leave the sanitary bubble that is Washington to meet with actual voters.

The President, for his part, has asked his supporters to forward to the White House "fishy" emails from those questioning his policies. Questioned about whether the administration is collecting data on its opponents, the President's spokesman assured reporters that they just want to correct misleading information and have no intention of keeping an enemies list.

That may be, but the White House noted later that federal law requires all correspondence be kept. The whole affair could only have what the Supreme Court. refers to as "a chilling effect" both on free speech and on the functioning of a free and open democracy.

Whatever the case, it looks like the honeymoon is over.

Obama is showing his true colors, which his opponents witnessed throughout the campaign process. This very racist, bigoted, anti-American president has done more harm to this country than any of the previous 43 presidents.

He is becoming more like Putin, Chavez, Castro, etc with his actions and speeches, trying to stop freedom of speech and dissenters from voicing their opinions.

So few people even now realize the terrible mistake we've made electing this administration.

I beg your pardon Jack Kinch. I did not make the terrible mistake. I did not vote for this... this... this person for president. Maybe you did, but I didn't.

So many abuses of power in such a short, short time. And this coming from a "constitutional" attorney?

When will a strong majority wake from their drugged stupor of hope and change and see this glib thug for who he is?

I think these actions smack of desperation. People are revolting in large numbers against the proposed health insurance reform and they can't counter it with anything other than attacks.

The important thing to remember is that the White House and liberals in general WANT us to focus on 'protest' and not the issue. They want the conversation to be about these wacky ring-wing nuts protesting the answer to all of our healthcare woes. We can't let them do that.

Just keep taking a stand against this. Challenge your elected officials and make it about the real issue at hand. They will sink their own ship as long as we keep ours on course.

T the D, it's not that they can't counter with anything. They aren't allowed to. Nancy Pelosi controls the Congressional floor, and no dissent nor alternate proposals will be entertained. It is one thing when your opponents have no ideas. It is another when you won't allow them to be heard. The Democratic Congress and the President won't allow them to be heard.

This administration is getting in deeper trouble every time it speaks. The people are finally waking up to what they are up to. The sad thing is this could have been easily avoided had everyone not been so enamored by such flowery words and fancy speeches and listening to what he was saying during the campaign. He said what he planned to do and we chose to ignore it. NOW WE NEED TO STOP THE SLIDE INTO SOCIALISM!

This is the end result of things when you put people in power whose sole belief in th ebetterment of mankind rest soley with their misplaced sense of noblesse-oblige to the "great unwashed."

In short, snobs who genuinely think that they are better than you.

What has happened to my country? A president who uses his office to assault American citizens who voice opinions contrary to his? A nation so deeply in debt our future is at peril and yet, we want to try socialized medicine which never works? Citizens who protest are called un-American? Citizens who protest are labeled racists, etc? An organization such as ACORN is given true legitimacy? I will NEVER register as a Democrat again! I have learned my lesson, albeit the hard way.

Just look at his campaign phrases.
HOPE and CHANGE you can BELIEVE in.
Hope, change and belief are words that have no concrete meaning. They are throw away words that have no substance, just like our president, Princess Pelosi and Sir Reade.
So let's just HOPE we get to keep the CHANGE that they BELIEVE we should have.

We need to get the 50 % of Americans that do not vote to get off of their duffs and make a difference in 2010.
As far as a health care reform, we should demand an amendment to the bill that states all politicans would be subject to the same health care ( if it should pass ). No exceptions.
No meaningful legistation is going to have any effect until tort reform is also addressed.
The democrat party must resort to the name calling, labeling and calling out the union thugs because they have no logical, reasoned thought process in attempting to get this bill RAMMED through congress. As the town hall meetings have demonstrate, the democrat party DOES NOT have the backing of the American people in spite of the slanted coverage of the lamestream media.

Hooah!

Aug 12, 2009

Big surprise that a liberal Democrat says he wants to hear others ideas and objections and then when they are offered he wants them shut up because deep down he really thinks he knows better and is way smarter than the American people and that only he can save our country. Hmmmm...sounds like another dynamic speaker who wanted to save good ol' Germany by getting rid of anyone who opposed his plan. Get ready people because unless something changes I hear the death toll of freedom in America.

Well, how's that changy thing working out for everyone? Me, I think I'll just cling to my guns and religion, and my money, the folks who voted for PrezBo can keep the change. When you offer the sun, moon and stars someone has to pay for it, and folks, we're broke, as in no money, so those of us with a job and some cash in our 401ks are being looked at like we're Sunday dinner.

At some point, those who voted for this socailist have to admit you made a grave mistake. Ice scrapers make great Obama/Biden bumper sticker removers. They will try to lull you back to sleep, hoping you forget in 2010 and 2012.

I, too, will be glad when the Obama term is over. What did people think before the election? It was all there to be seen. The man wanted to kill babies, he hung around with bomb throwers, he went to "church" listening to a man that HATED the US. All of this was foreseeable, yet people voted for him. And yes, his "progressive" ideas mean he wants to see "defective" people killed. Read who his fellow progressive, Margaraet Sanger, wanted to eliminate with abortions. I think the man has an identity crises.

Are recall elections permitted at the federal level? This is crazy, living in China, I cannot believe that the Chinese are permitting this legislation to move forward. When you own someone's debt, you own them. China needs to stand up and stop this on Obama's visit!!!

If the enablers stop giving the addicts money--they will have to change or die. I don't care which one happens, but I am not moving back to the US until I am assured this fails miserably.

I have signed up at Ron Paul's website. I think he has the answer and it isn't the government. The Progessive Era of the mommy state is now over. Mommy is broke and it is time to grow up, shrink the government and solve our own problems.

Its unbelieveable that this administration as well as the liberal democrats lower the bar by branding others with brutish names simply because ordinary people such as myself opposes their Health Care proposal. I am a health care professional and I do not agree with this administration's health care plan. I have spoken with other health care professionals as well and they don't agree with this particular Health care bill. There are alot of unanswered questions that leave this bill undesirable. Its amazing to me that we are allowing legislators to try to construct or craft the reformation of our nation's entire health care system! Legislators drafting a bill this magnanimous that would affect almost every American citizen is a disaster waiting to happen.
