EPA arrests CNBC's Rick Santelli

By: Scott Ott, Examiner Columnist

CNBC reporter Rick Santelli, whose passionate rant about the Obama housing rescue plan, and call for a "Chicago Tea Party" became a viral internet video, was arrested today by armed officers from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) covert special forces division.

Held without bail at an undisclosed "brownfield site", Santelli faces several counts of reckless endangerment of wildlife habitat after he threatened to rally capitalists to dump "derivative securities" into Lake Michigan as a way of re-enacting the Boston Tea-Party protest of 1773.

"Mr. Santelli is certainly entitled to his wacky economic opinions," said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, "But if he had gone to the EPA website, clicked the regulations link, downloaded the document, printed it out and read it...he would have realized that dumping toxic assets into a lake is expressly forbidden. Read the document, Mr. Santelli. Read it."

Gibbs added, "I don't know where Mr. Santelli lives, but apparently, like most conservative critics, he has a callous disregard for the lives of the waterfowl, sturgeon and fresh-water mollusks that inhabit the Lake Michigan watershed. If the Chinese were shipping us toys made with derivative securities, we'd recall our ambassador and cut off relations. If R.J. Reynolds were mixing derivative securities with its tobacco, cigarettes would be banned. Do you know what's in those securities, Mr. Santelli?"

The press secretary later said that final question was rhetorical since, like the recently-passed stimulus act, "no one really knows what's in there yet."

Satire and sarcasm are sometimes much more pointed, and accurate, than reasoned discourse. This is one of those times. But, be careful of what you wish fore... From your lips to AG Holder's ears.

This was my first visit to dcexaminer.com When I read the story, not knowing it was satire, I was outraged but not surprized. That in itself is a sad commentary on the state of our nation, the fact that I could even consider the scenario as being a reality.

It wasn't just the toxic asset dump that got Santelli into trouble. They're also nailing him for airwave pollution and contributing to global warming with unregulated releases of hot air.

Rick Santelli should be the Secretary of the Treasury AND the Chief Economic Advisor of the Obama team. Unfortunately, the Obama team comes from another planet. We're all going to pay the price, unfortunately

I was watching CNBC when Rick went off. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, that a top analyst was saying exactly what my associates and I have been saying all along. The White House heard it and Gibbs came on and said "Samtelli didn't know what he was talking about" and invited him to the White House to discuss it over a cup of caffeinated coffee.

Undoubtedly CNBC will initiate a 7 second delay in their newscasts so that there will longer be any unfettered condemnation of the "STIMULUS PACKAGE" that could bring "The ONE" into disrepute.

What a bunch of cowards the White house has working for them. I thought you had to 'actually' dump something in the waterways. I hope Mr. Santelli gets free legal advise and counsel for this, the government and especially Mr. Gibbs need to be sued for such a STUPID act.

This may be satire, but the socialist libs and their environmental wacko allies are no laughing matter. It is in their nature that if they see or believe that something toxic is affecting something it is their duty to clean it up while simultaneously blaming the toxicity on the Conservatives.

Why July ?!? All the global online chatter and ongoing Tea Party "plans" have thus far utterly missed the most important aspect Mr. Santelli's diatribe. What exactly is the 'derivative security' he is proposing to 'dump'?!? The US Dollar? The 10-year Treasury note? An interest rate future or swap? I can only assume that it is an option of some sort expiring July 18, 2009. But which one and how will those on the other side of the trade (read: The Fed) be forced to respond. 'Quantitative easing' meet Mister Market..This could get ugly. We're thinking of having a Chicago Tea Party in July. All you capitalists that wanna show up to Lake Michigan, I'm organizing. We're gonna be dumping in some derivative securities, what do you think about that?!?

JenG153- why don't you shut your mouth, and ask an immigrant from one of the former Eastern Bloc countries of what they think of all this "Change we can believe in" You stupid idiot- your liberties are being stripped form you- yet you are too ignorant to understand it. So shut up and let those who realize that the Press/ Democrats/ Communists have hijacked this nation- defend her against tyranny. BTW look that word up- you might learn something!

The ironic part of the whole thing was having Gibbs defend the president's plan by saying that Santelli didn't know what he was talking about. Santelli joined CNBC with a long resume that included a number of important management positions handling futures and options trading. Santelli has forgotten more about money and markets than Gibbs or the president will ever know.

Doesn't the thought that you are not allowed to speak out against the government remind you of someone from the past -- like Germany? It should scare anyone with any brain function when so called "news media", public schools, web sites of "media?" actively compain for Obama -- or ANLYONE? To all of these brain dead cool aid drinkers that think this is OK now because the support the liberal agenda -- what happens when the leadership changes and you still have this monster you created to deal with? Anyone that thinks that a free and unbiased press is not necessary should remember the lessons of Natzi Germany and the USSR where the goverment controlled the media.

Here it is America, Communism at its finest. Arresting somebody for thinking of doing something. Wake up and smell the FEAR. This country is on a huge downward spiral because of corrupt Government and it has to be stopped. Keep letting them take your rights and the day you wake up in Russia, its because of you. Stop being mindless cattle being lead to financial slaughter. This country was founded on open minded thinkers. Whether you admit it or not, you have become complacent and the Government has noticed and is taking full advantage. Stop the bleeding, make this country of the people, for the people. Wake up

If there is a trial let us know as we will go to the court house and stand up to this stupidity and say my name is also Rick Sabtelli and we will fill the jail (bring a tea bag) Also bailing out Citibanc this means once again we are saving Saudi Arabia Prince Alwaleed and United Arab Emirates (Abi Dhabi) who bailed out Citibanc in 2000 and 2007 and then the US in 2008. We the people listen hear and remember we may forgive we just don't forget and we are not stupid
