Obama declares Gitmo detainees to be 'fetuses'

News fairly unbalanced. We report. You decipher

In an effort to shut down the U.S. Naval Detention Center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, thereby restoring America's moral standing in the world, President Barack Obama today declared some 240 enemy combatants held at Gitmo to be 'human fetuses'.

In an executive order, the president said, "Since I ordered Gitmo shut down, and people don't want us to bring the inmates here, the only way to extract them from the facility is to change their legal status to one that offers us more choices."

While accused terrorists have access to attorneys, and nearly-limitless legal appeals, a fetus has no legal standing, cannot speak for itself, and is subject to the death penalty without regard to guilt or innocence.

Civil rights advocates have pressured Obama to follow through on campaign promises to shutter Gitmo, but even Democrats in Congress have resisted bringing the inmates to U.S. soil for trials and incarceration.

"We can debate whether enemy combatants have access to protections under the U.S. Constitution," said Obama. "However, no serious person would grant such protection to an embryo or fetus. The loss of 240 fetuses wouldn't raise an eyebrow in a nation where more than 3,000 of them hit the Dumpster daily."

The president noted that America's global reputation has been devastated by U.S. treatment of terror suspects, but that "our treatment of a million fetuses each year earns us nothing but admiration, and requests for clinic-funding from those who aspire to be like us."

Sources acknowledged continuing White House debate about whether a terrorist who escapes from Gitmo alive can still be treated as a fetus.

Scott, It would not surprise me if it actually happened and the media reported it with praise. God help us with this bunch for next 3.5 years.

Okay, there needs to be a warning... do not drink liquids as you read a Scott Ott headline. I always say this is the genius of Ott as a comic writer: he can point out the glaring contradictions in people's positions.

Since they're obviously past the second trimester, I am glad your editorial sensibilities did not describe the process by which they would be forcibly "removed" from the facility.

Then can we put them up for adoption? That would clearly solve the problem of finding them somewhere for them to go, it would allow a family to raise them with good values so when they become an adult again, they will think twice before strapping a bomb to their chest..

Then we can put them up for adoption..That will allow some family to adopt and raise them with strong values, so maybe they will think twice before strapping a bomb to their chest when they become an adult again..

This is just a very late term abortion. Actually, they can send the detainees to my neighborhood. We'll take care of them. We can nickname them Freddo and take them fishing. Why not just implant "digital angels" in them and let them go back to their native country. Whenever two or more of them gather, we home in on their gps coordinate and send them their parting gift from the US military thus helping them to achieve their goal of meeting Allah. It's a win win for everyone.

Scott - Once again you are right on! We have a shed in the backyard that we can use to hold one of these guys. It's cramped, no light, extremely hot, no toilet facilities, they'd have to work for food and would be chained and locked in at night. But what the heck?

To be consistent Obama would have to let an escaped terrorist/fetus just lay there unattended. Of course, Obama is never bound by prior statements; shoot to kill.

A Fetus is a living human being who has more rights than a terrorist. Fetus's are the most innocent human beings on earth and deserve the best of attorneys and the right to be born and live. It is an insult to Fetus's to be compared to a terrorist.

If only 10% of what I read on the internet about barak hussain obama is true, then I am afraid for a continuing unified United States of America. It sounds like he is either a man with mental problems, a severe drug addict, or he is purposfully trying to bring down america. Its sad to see and hear from this guy for the last 7 months, he will say anything at all, totally without regard for the variables for the decisions he makes

Unfortunately I read this too quickly thought the quotations were verbatim quotations from the President himself and wrote off a series of letter on the issue using the quotes which I have had to try and find again to issue a retraction for false quotations! It was a very clever piece of satire

That was the stupidest thing I have ever read. Replace the word fetus with calf. Calves are innocent creatures. And they are killed all the time. I don't see republicans promoting vegetarianism. And as far as "terrorists"--look at your beloved Bush and Cheney. Look at all the innocent PEOPLE, not fetuses, they murdered.
