House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that Trump's tweets about two MSNBC hosts hurt Republican attempts to create a more civil tone in Congress.
"Obviously, I don't see this as an appropriate comment," said Ryan, R-Wis. "What we are trying to do around here is improve the tone and civility of the debate and this obviously doesn't do that."
Trump tweeted out that Thursday that MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski was "bleeding badly from a face-lift" when he saw her in Florida.
Ryan said Republicans are focused on passing legislation, including a medical liability reform bill that won approval on Wednesday and two immigration reform bills up for a vote Thursday.
"What our constituents care about is are we solving their problems," Ryan said. "We are doing what we said we would do when we campaigned and asked for this opportunity to serve."
