The Washington Examiner’s Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon said America’s “founding values are constantly under attack,” leading many to feel hopeless about the future of the country.
While appearing on Fox Report with Jon Scott, Gurdon discussed his recent writing reflecting on findings that suggest patriotism is dwindling.
WHY PATRIOTISM AND HOPE IN AMERICA ARE COLLAPSING
“Some of the founding values of this country are being discarded. And it’s not surprising because the founding values are constantly under attack,” Gurdon said.
“The Left is constantly persuading people, insisting that our founding values are hypocritical. They want to teach that if you are white, you are irredeemably racist, if you are black, you cannot escape your inferior position because you have no agency. People are watching the values of this country under constant assault, so it really is no surprise that they are beginning to doubt it. There’s self-doubt creeping into America, and it’s really undermining confidence in the country,” he said.
Gurdon’s comments follow a recent poll that showed patriotism, faith, and the desire to raise a family are declining in importance throughout the United States.

“It suggests that people are not as invested and not as interested, do not think it is as important to bring the next generation of Americans into the world,” Gurdon said.
“Across the board, there are concerning numbers here that suggest a divided country, a country which is perhaps losing confidence in its future,” he said.
