During her press conference Thursday morning, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was asked by a reporter whether the Internal Revenue Service scandal would affect Democrats’ election prospects in 2014.

“I’ve said before what they did is wrong. The Inspector General has said over and over it is not illegal,” Pelosi replied.

Pelosi reminded reporters that the IRS was an “independent agency,” and that the scandal occurred under the leadership of an IRS official appointed by President George W. Bush.

Pelosi added that she would not blame President Obama for the scandal just like she wouldn’t hold Republican House Speaker John Boehner, responsible for a scandal that was centered in an Ohio Congressional district near his own.

“Well, the president doesn’t know about everything that is going on in every agency of government,” Pelosi insisted. “Should Mr. Boehner have known that this is his neighboring district and in Cincinnati, where the IRS office is? I don’t think you can hold him accountable for what happened in that IRS office.”
