John Oliver is a British comedian whose new HBO show "Last Week Tonight" is super popular among left-leaning millennials craving sharper-edged content than Jon Stewart's "just a comedian" schtick.

I can't say that I find Oliver funny, but he's not unfunny, and that counts.

Oliver's latest episode deals with the payday loan industry.

It includes forgettable lines such as "it's the circle of debt" and "payday loans are the Lay's potato chips of finance."

But overall, not bad.

My colleague Joseph Lawler wrote a useful post a while back on efforts being made to help poor people access credit in ways that aren't accompanied with obscene interest rates. (Spoiler: Wal-Mart is probably a better prospect than the Post Office.)

Thanks for reading.
