Forty-two percent of Republicans think Donald Trump will become their party's presidential nominee, and 43 percent think he is the strongest candidate to win the general election.
Fifteen percent think it will be Ben Carson, while only 12 percent think establishment favorite Jeb Bush will prevail, according to a new ABC News poll.
Marco Rubio places fourth, with 5 percent of GOPers predicting he will be the nominee.
Thirteen percent think Bush would be the strongest nominee for the general election. Nineteen percent think Carson would be.
So far, Trump's dominance of the campaign has continued through autumn, despite numerous media prognostications of his imminent collapse.
In the same poll, Trump, despite being the wealthiest candidate in the field, prevailed on the question of which candidate "best understands the problems of people like you," with 29 percent of respondents saying so.
