A Maryland State Police trooper taken to a hospital after he was struck by a stolen vehicle in Prince George's County, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, a stolen Honda was observed around noon Friday on the Capital Beltway near Baltimore Avenue. Troopers tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver didn't stop, state police spokesman Sgt. Marc Black said.

A pursuit began, and during the chase a trooper was putting stop sticks on the road in order to deflate the Honda's tires, Black said. However, the stolen vehicle avoided the sticks and struck the trooper in the 10100 block of Baltimore Avenue.

The vehicle chase continued until the suspect bailed out of the stolen Honda in the Silver Spring area. After that, troopers pursued the driver on foot and took him into custody, Black said.

The trooper who was struck was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
