Politico founder and former CEO Jim VandeHei blasted political reporters for what he said was an excessive bias against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," VandeHei, a former Washington Post reporter, said the proof that reporters are generally against Trump is seen most clearly on Twitter.
"I think reporters have become so biased, so partisan, particularly on Twitter," he said Tuesday morning. "Go look at the Twitter feeds of the reporters from your major newspapers — the New York Times, the Washington Post, others — and tell me if those are things that they would say on TV or things that would ever have been acceptable in previous campaigns. And that doesn't mean that Trump doesn't say plenty that you should get all worked up about but just let the facts be out there and let people make a judgement …"
Show host Joe Scarborough, a former GOP congressman, agreed that he often sees the Twitter accounts of reporters he knows work for the New York Times and sees them doing an "end zone dance" in commentary about the latest controversy surrounding Trump.
"Somewhere along the line in this presidential race," said Willie Geist, an anchor for NBC's "Today" show, "the decision was made by many members of the media that Trump had to be stopped, that this couldn't happen, that this year was different, that it was incumbent upon people to stop 'a bigot,' and all those things that he's been called and maybe is— that this time was different. And so when you go on and you see reporters tweeting out things, you go, 'Oh my gosh, you're the guy who's going to write the lead news story above the fold in a major newspaper."
There has been a push by many national news personalities to spur the media into being more aggressive in their coverage of Trump.
Trump himself has regularly pushed back against what he has said is an "unfair" news media.
