Video proof: Obama wants a single-payer system

One video is worth a thousand words (or, as in this column, about 730). The video in question, put together by a group called Verum Serum, shows public statements by three advocates of single-payer (government monopoly) health insurance explaining that a health care bill with a “government option” would move America toward a single-payer government health care system. You may not have heard of the first two, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and professor Jacob Hacker. But you have heard of the third, President Barack Obama.

Schakowsky is a left-wing Democrat from the north side of Chicago and adjacent suburbs and, as chief deputy whip, part of the House Democratic leadership. The video shows her speaking to an enthusiastic group last April. She cites an insurance company spokesman as saying, “A public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single-payer.” The audience cheers. “My single-payer friends,” she goes on, “he was right.” Later she adds, “This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there, and I believe we will.”

Schakowsky sounds self-assured but angry, perhaps because her husband, Robert Creamer, served five months in prison a few years ago for bank fraud and failure to pay withholding taxes. Hacker (formerly at Yale, now at Berkeley) sounds friendly and cheerful in appearances recorded in January 2007 and July 2008. With a government-option plan, he says in 2007, “You can at least make the claim that there’s a competitive system between the public and the private sector,” but he predicts that the government option “would eliminate the small group insurance.”

Speaking of the government option in 2008, he says, “Someone told me this was a Trojan horse for single-payer. Well, it’s not a Trojan horse, right? It’s just right there. I’m telling you. We’re going to get there, over time, slowly, but we’ll move away from reliance on employer-based health insurance as we should, but we’ll do it in a way that we’re not going to frighten people into thinking they’re going to lose their private insurance. We’re going to give them a choice of public and private insurance when they’re in the pool, and we’re going to let them keep their private employer-based insurance if their employer continues to provide it.”

Of course there’s no guarantee employers will. Many employers, single-payer advocates hope, will be happy to let their employees go onto the government plan. The Lewin Group, cited often by various analysts, estimates that a government-option plan, depending on how the law is written, could move as many as 100 million households off private insurance and onto the government plan in a few years.

Obama has never made his ultimate goal a secret; it’s the same as Schakowsky’s and Hacker’s. The video shows him saying in October 2003, when he was running for the U.S. Senate, “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer health care program.” He adds, “We may not get there immediately,” noting the Democrats must “take back” the White House and both houses of Congress — a condition fulfilled last Jan. 20.

Campaigning for president in May 2007, he says, “But I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately.” That seems to imply that his goal remains the same as it was in 2003. “There’s going to be potentially some transition process — I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out, where we’ve got a much more portable system.” Which of course government health insurance would be. You couldn’t get away from it. The president’s defenders depict this video and others like it as a patchwork of irrelevant and misleading statements. They also cite Obama’s oft-repeated pledges that any health care bill he would sign would let you keep the insurance you have. They don’t address the point, raised by Hacker, that you can’t keep it if your employer stops offering it.

But, as Schakowsky says, “This is not a principled fight.” Schakowsky, Hacker and Obama believe, out of idealism but also perhaps for crass political reasons, that America would be better off with a single-payer system like Canada’s or Britain’s. But they realize that they’re operating in a country where most voters don’t agree. The video helps us understand how they’re seeking to reach their single-payer goal through government-option stealth.

Which is better to speak with your doctor face to face or to have a government agent sitting between you and your doctor. That is what Obummer wants.

When leftist politicians have to lie and trick the people to get what they want it should be obvious to the most simple minded that these are the type this country cannot afford to have in power.

It really is not hard to figure out that Obama is a LIAR!..The retoric is astounding...he goes on national TV and says one thing and has always either done another or a video surfaces where he says something entirely different...This is really a no brainer with Obama...And the lies and spin on the health care townhalls is also astounding..Having been to a couple myself...I can honestly say...they are straight from the heart of the people..NOT Arranged by the republican party as Obama and his partners in crime would like you to believe...If I remember correctly it was Obama who hires ACORN MOBS for his own functions!
Now we have his union thugs from the SEIU beating people up that do not go with his agenda...This will most certainly come back to haunt him and his partners in crime...

If it weren't for the Internet, and visionary tools like "Youtube" it would be almost impossible to quickly find the evidence that proves these people are the consummate liars that they are.

Well this can't be correct. Arlen Spector was interviewed by Rick Santorum Friday morning on Bill Bennett's Morning In America Radio Show. When Santorum asked him why he fought against Hillary's plan on the Senate Floor back in the 90's, but is now for Obama's monstrosity, Spector answered that Hillary's was a single payer plan which he opposed but that Obama's is not single payer, therefore he was in favor of the new plan. Then Spector advised listeners to listen to Chuckee Schumer explain the plan because Schumer, in Spector's mind, had the inside poop on what Obama's plan was all about. So don't believe your eye's and ears ladies and gentlemen, believe Chuckee Schumer---that's the word from Arlen the Moron.

Obama is lying! "If you like your plan or your current doctor, you can keep them" This is a scam and a lie. He should be ashamed of himself. This bill is full of lawyerspeak.

The bill states if there is ANY change in your plan (whether by you, the insurance co or your employer) you will go on the public plan (Co-op is the public plan).

Think about it. Why would your employer pay for example $6,000.00 a year for each employee when they can just pay the fine of 8% of your wage, or worse, the $750.00 a year the Senate plan states?

Companies are not stupid, nor are they fro the employee.

How about someone talking to Grandma about her end of life care? This is her choice, right? Coercion is not choice.

Barney Frank is on video telling single payer advocates the same thing:

“Public option is the best way to reach single payer.”

They are telling us. We just have to listen.

As I told Babs Mikulski when I sent her a 3-page letter of my reasons for opposing this bill: when you and your fellow congressmen / senators drop your Rolls Royce medical plan and sign up for Obamacare, then you can count me as a supporter. . . . .

Geez, I hate say it, but Obama is lying. He has historically said that he favors single payer. There are vids of him saying so on the web. (Do a search, you'll find them quickly.) To my knowledge, he has never addressed this change of heart. In fact, he denies he ever said it. Most people believe he is attempting to deceive. We must not let him get away with this deception.

The SAD TRUTH is that even with hard evidence of the overwhelming lies told by this administration, there remains a huge numbr of Americans who will sit on their behinds and not do a thing about it. They will continue to vote with the herd, do what they are told and never really think hard enough to know what they believe, let alone stand up for it! That sickens me!

What a bunch of clueless idiots. If the bill (which is not even up for vote yet) is too difficult for you to understand because it's in "lawyer-speak", how can you tell anyone what it says? Like me, Obama thinks single payer is the best way to go, but it won't work in the U.S. - however, the very best thing we could do at this point is create a system where a guy in business for himself has the same bargaining power with the insurance companies as the company with 500,000 employees. In other words - move away from employer-paid health insurance and toward a system where you buy your own health insurance through a public exchange.

I don't understand why some of you say Obama is lying? He says he want single payer, he knows he can't get there all at once, so he tries to maneuver his way there step by step. That's not lying, and it's not even a "trick." It's how a practical, intelligent person uses a system to get what they want.
