Golf makes an honest man out of Obama

Every golfer in the world’s familiar with taking a mulligan, right?

Not President Barack Obama.

According to the Cape Cod Times, the golfer in chief never takes a mulligan — that is, hitting a bad shot over, typically on the first tee. He is also meticulous about recording his score, and he absolutely refuses to cheat.
And sounds like after this trip, there will be plenty of players to confirm this with.

Minutes after appointing Ben Bernanke to a second term as Federal Reserve chairman, Obama hit the links at Mink Meadows golf club for nine holes with White House trip director Marvin Nicholson, Michael Ruemmler from the presidential advance team and White House chef Sam Kass. This follows Monday’s five-hour, 18-hole round with UBS Investment Bank President Robert Wolf and Chicago physician Eric Whitaker, and again, Nicholson.

The most recent president who often made Martha’s Vineyard his summer playground — Bill Clinton — was, however, “notorious for dropping a second ball when the first shot wasn’t to his liking and for taking putts without holing out,” according to Cape Cod Times columnist Rob Duca.

Clinton even complained to the media about the skepticism of his golfing prowess. If only the media scrutiny had stopped at his golf game, right?

Someone not having the best day on the links?

Course spies reported that Vineyard summer resident and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David, joined by Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, hit a shot right into a bunker and then threw his club.

“Well, at least the most I can lose today is $1,000,” he was overheard saying.

Return of the prophet Muhammad couldn't make an honest man out of "The One"..

I watched Obama slice a tee-shot over a two-lane road on a first tee-box earlier this month. About 30 of us were watching from as close as we were allowed to get and when my playing partner blurted out "MULLIGAN!" after the tee-shot, Obama heard him, looked at us and shouted over: "I get ONE!" He then re-teed and played out the hole with the mulligan ball. So this story has no truth to it.
