Recycled slogans: RNC outs senator as a flip-flopper

It's apparently still a dig in Washington to be compared to cheap plastic footwear, or to Sen. John Kerry, for that matter.

The Republican National Committee is using the old "flip-flop" charge against moderate Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln in a new Web advertisement against her position on health care reform.

The Arkansas moderate might vote to get the Senate health care bill to the floor, but then might not vote for the final package. Thus, she would be voting for it before she votes against it.

Sound familiar?

"It looks like Blanche Lincoln wasn't paying attention in 2004 because she may be planning to pull a John Kerry with her health care reform vote in the Senate -- voting for it, before she votes against it," RNC Chairman Michael Steele said Monday in a statement releasing the ad.

The video melds Lincoln and Kerry's faces together at one point, having them flip and flop about as the narrator ominously says, "They want Sen. Lincoln to tell voters in Arkansas: 'I voted for government-run health care for my party boss, before I voted against it to save my job.' "

Now, that's scary stuff.

Apparently, the RNC doesn't realize that it is no longer 2004 and that old recyled smears no longer work. Senator Kerry has proven himself to be a leader and is a respected voice on foreign policy. He chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and I think most people now realize he would have been a better presidental choice in 2004. Is this what the RNC was trying to do? Were they attempting to remind us just how bad President Bush was for this country?

S T R E T C H I N G! This only worked on Kerry because he said it himself, in front of cameras. Since then this attack has been used a million times, with zero effect, as far as I can tell.

it will work.. She knows that a vote to bring it to the floor, only requires 50 to pass. That way she can vote against it then, when the real cloture vote was the one that mattered.

We are not stupid, and Lincold will pay dearly for ANY vote yes...

I'm the same way, I do my best to remain neutral. It's hard, if you communicate with the person the other person dislikes, then you fall out of favor with them! I simple can't dislike a person, just because someone else does, I just can't.
