"Journey to Mecca" opened Thursday at the IMAX theater at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, but the night before, the Saudi Embassy and the embassies of the United Arab Emirates and Morocco hosted a premiere that attracted a slew of ambassadors and other D.C. elite.

Ambassador Salem Al-Sabah and Rima Al-Sabah of Saudi Arabia; Gen. Colin Powell and his wife, Alma; and former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, accompanied by his wife, were spotted in the crowd.

The movie details the travels of a 14th-century Moroccan voyager to Saudi Arabia's Mecca.
