White House celebrates nation, Malia’s birthday

Her sister may have been spoiled a bit for her 8th birthday, spending the day in London with the cast of the “Harry Potter” movies, but Malia Obama got to spend her 11th under the sky of a hundred fireworks.

Malia Obama was fetted Saturday night in addition to the county’s independence, born 11 years ago the same day as the nation did 233 years back. President Barack Obama told the crowd at the Independence Day party on the South Lawn how the day holds a special significance to their family and recalled that when Malia was little her use to tell her the fireworks each year were for her.

“I’m not sure she buys that [any more],” he joked about his oldest daughter who commemorated the day by having her facepainted with a bright American flag.

Malia had a lot of activities to choose from as the Lawn had everything a kid loves – volleyball and mini basketball, Uncle Sam on stilts and unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream.

The first family also took in a concert by Foo Fighters and Michelle Branch as well as heard a comedy sketch by Jimmy Fallon.

Prior to her official day, the family is said to have privately celebrated at Camp David.  We can guess that none of her new friends were there as Obama said the thought of 20 tweens at the Camp was “a little intimidating.”

Here and in your print copy, you referred that, Malia Obama was fetted Saturday night along with the celebrations of the county's independence." County? pay attention to this typo, like the other paper of the Capital's nation.
