Pope Francis strongly condemned those involved in the weapons industry, saying they are hypocrites and can't call themselves Christian.
"If you trust only men you have lost," he told young people in a rally in the Italian city of Turin on Sunday. He had put aside his prepared remarks to make the comments.
"It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit of distrust, doesn't it?" Francis said to applause.
"[D]uplicity is the currency of today ... they say one thing and do another," he also said in criticism toward those who invest in the weapons industry.
Francis also criticized the "great powers" for doing nothing to stop the Holocaust.
"The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to the concentration camps like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody. Why didn't they bomb (the railway lines)?" he said.
