A Prince George's County teacher has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student, police said.

Garnold Maurice King, 48, of Upper Marlboro, is charged with second-, third-, and fourth-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and two counts of sex abuse of a minor, according to Prince George's County police. He was arrested on Dec. 6 and has since been released on $125,000 bond.

Between September 2011 and June 2012, King sexually assaulted a then-13-year-old girl repeatedly, both on and off school grounds, police said. King was a social studies teacher at Isaac Goudine Middle School in Fort Washington at the time, and the victim was one of his students.

On Wednesday, police said they were unable to provide any further information on the assaults.

"Our number one priority is the protection and safety of our students and we are deeply saddened to learn about this incident," Prince George's County Public Schools officials said in a statement.

King was assigned to Thurgood G. Marshall Middle School in Temple Hills this semester, but he was removed when school officials learned about the allegations. He has been placed on administrative leave.
