Longtime Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley will go from FedEx Field to the political arena over the next 24 hours.
Cooley, whose Redskins host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, will be the main draw Tuesday night at a fundraiser for Virginia Senate Republicans in Fauquier County, according to an invitation sent out by the GOP.
The two-time Pro Bowler will sign autographs for a half hour before a holiday cocktail reception hosted by Sen. Jill Vogel at her Upperville home. Tickets for the event cost between $50 and $5,000, but only donations greater than $1,000 earn attendees a chance to rub elbows with Cooley.
A quick look at campaign finance records in Virginia and the Federal Election Commission show no contributions from Cooley to Republicans. But he has been active on the fundraising circuit lately: In October he held an event for Friends of Homeless Animals at his art gallery in Leesburg.
