She's called on Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to change the name of the team, which some call racist, but House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi fondly recalls that “Hail to the Redskins” was the first non-church song she ever learned.

In fact, asked about the team’s name this week, she gleefully sang the opening words, waving her hands like a band conductor while belting out: “Hail to the Redskins.”

It was during a Buzzfeed interview that she acted like a lot of Redskins fans who have come to believe the name should be changed, but still can't give up the nostalgia around the team and name.

After she stopped singing, Pelosi just smiled at the irony of her joy in the words and her recent position opposing the name and said, “so now I’m like, oh my gosh.”

She did suggest a solution: A naming contest.

Owner Snyder, however, has vowed to never change the name.
