Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon is doubtful and punter Sav Rocca is questionable for Sunday’s game at the New York Giants. Garcon’s status is not a surprise considering the issues he’s had with his right foot. But Rocca’s situation could put the Redskins in a tough spot.
Washington worked out three punters Friday, including former Eagles punter Chas Henry, in case Rocca can’t punt. Shanahan said the veteran punter injured his knee while jogging Thursday and will test out the knee Saturday. If he can’t punt the Redskins will sign one of the three punters who was in town Friday.
Garcon did not practice and the only way he’ll play is if something happens to one of the other primary receivers.
Also questionable: corner Cedric Griffin (hamstring), corner David Jones (Achilles), safety Jordan Pugh (concussion) and fullback Darrel Young (hamstring). With Pugh potentially sidelined and Griffin still being questionable — though he’s been optimistic about this game for more than a week — the Redskins worked out corner D.J. Johnson, who played for secondary coach Raheem Morris in Tampa Bay last season, and defensive back Devin Holland.
If Rocca can’t punt, the Redskins also would need a new holder. If the new punter doesn’t hold, then it would be backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.
