Rep. Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y., called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign from his post for the Justice Department's defense in a legal case about the emoluments clause.
"Sessions should resign immediately. This is an embarrassment to the many people at DOJ who've devoted their lives to the law & Constitution," Rice wrote in a tweet late Friday.
Rice cited a tweet about President Trump's administration arguing in favor of his businesses' receiving payments from domestic and foreign entities.
In a filing, Justice Department lawyers contend Trump is not in violation of a constitutional provision that prohibits federal officials from receiving compensation from outside parties.
