A second American, identified as Abdirahmaan Muhumed of Minneapolis, died while fighting for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, according to a Fox News report.

A local Fox affiliate in Minneapolis reported late Wednesday that Muhumed was killed in the same battle in Syria as Douglas McAuthur McCain, the first American U.S. authorities identified Wednesday as having died fighting for ISIS. McCain grew up in a Minneapolis suburb, then most recently lived in San Diego before leaving for Syria.

U.S. officials confirmed McCain’s death earlier this week, but are holding off about reports of Muhumed.

“We’re aware of media reporting and social media activity indicating that a second American citizen associated with ISIS has been killed in Syria,” National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said Wednesday night.

“At this point, we are not in a position to confirm those reports. Should that change, we will provide an update.”

Thursday morning she told the Washington Examiner that Wednesday’s statement still stands.
