U.S. Capitol police officers "detained" a journalist who was attempting to question Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy, according to the reporter, who was released after a background check.

"I am being detained by Capital Police for trying to ask @EPAGina a question after her remarks," BloombergBNA's Ari Natter tweeted. "Not the first time I have been threatened with arrest for doing my job as a reporter. Probably not the last either," Natter added.

Natter was trying to talk to McCarthy when she appeared at an event hosted by the American Council on Renewable Energy.

"After consulting with his superiors and running a background check the police have let me go," Natter updated.
