CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Longtime University of Virginia sports medicine director Dr. Frank McCue III has died. He was 82.
The university says in a news release that McCue died Sunday.
McCue served as doctor and medical assistant for U.Va.'s athletic program from 1961 until he retired in 2003.
The West Virginia native also served as surgeon for the athletic programs at the University of Richmond, the College of William and Mary and Virginia Military Institute before the schools had their own doctors.
After he retired, McCue was named professor emeritus of orthopedics at the U.Va. Medical Center.
U.Va.'s primary athletics support building, the McCue Center, is named in his honor.
