After announcing that he would not seek a fourth term as governor, Texas Gov. Rick Perry explained that he would host as many additional legislative sessions as necessary in the remaining days as governor to pass a Texas bill banning abortions after 20 weeks.

“Texas is and will remain a strong pro-life, pro-family, pro-freedom state,” Perry declared, vowing to protect the “right to life for the youngest and most vulnerable Texas.”

A House hearing for the bill is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning at the Texas Capitol.
