Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will host a fundraiser for Republican Senate hopeful Mike McFadden on Sept. 3, according to an invitation obtained by the Washington Examiner.

Tickets to the luncheon, at the University Club of New York, are priced at $2,600 per person. New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox is also listed as a host, among others.

The show of support from moneyed New York Republicans could be significant for McFadden, who has so far been the underdog in his challenge to Minnesota Sen. Al Franken, the Democratic incumbent. Franken won his first term in the Senate six years ago by the narrowest of margins and was thought to be vulnerable again this year — but Franken has polled at a consistent advantage to McFadden, a first-time candidate.

After taking an active role in the 2013 mayoral election in New York, Giuliani has not so far been an outsized presence on the campaign trail in 2014 boosting Republican candidates — although this fundraiser could mark a shift in that strategy.
