A new poll suggests Sen. Bernie Sanders may be moving ahead of Hillary Clinton in California days ahead of the high-stakes primary there.
The USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll found Sanders 1 point ahead of Clinton among eligible primary voters, the first survey to put Sanders ahead of Clinton. Sanders was ahead of Clinton 44-43, according to the poll.
However, the poll also found that Clinton leads Sanders 49-39 among likely voters.
While Clinton's once-commanding lead has shrunk in California, she's still poised to clinch the number of delegates she needs to claim the nomination. The Golden State is home to 475 delegates, the largest haul of the Democratic primary. Clinton needs just 70 more to reach the 2,383 she needs to win the nomination outright when counting the support of superdelegates, or delegates that are free to vote for the candidate of their choosing at the party convention regardless of how their state voted in the primary. Her lead is smaller among pledged delegates.
A pair of polls published earlier this week suggested Clinton's double-digit advantage had evaporated, and it showed her just 2 points ahead of her rival.
