Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., reversed President Obama’s insult for people who oppose his climate change policies, saying that the president is the real flat earther for targeting the coal industry in order to fight global warming.
“If they believe that [if] we stop burning coal in America completely — and that’s one billion tons a year, one-eighth of the consumption of the world — that we will clean up the environment, [then] they believe the world is still flat, that’s what we’re dealing with,” Manchin said on Fox News yesterday evening. “Really, it is going to be a killer of jobs.”
Manchin was taking a shot at Obama by alluding to his climate change speech on Monday. “Nobody has a monopoly on what is a very hard problem, but I don’t have much patience for anyone who denies that this challenge is real,” Obama said. “We don’t have time for a meeting of the Flat Earth Society.”
