Senate Republicans, led by South Dakota Sen. John Thune, released a video Tuesday blaming Democrats and President Obama for refusing to negotiate with Republicans to reopen the government and address the national debt.

The Senate GOP also faulted Obama for his rhetoric regarding the possibility of the U.S. defaulting on its debt, calling the rhetoric “unproductive” and “misguided.”

“Any statements by you or other senior administration officials — whether to Wall Street or Main Street — that express the belief that America will default on its debt are not only misleading in our view, but they threaten to destabilize financial markets and could raise borrowing costs for families and small businesses,” the senators said.
