Healthcare.gov users were surprised to discover over the weekend that the stock photo Image of a smiling woman was removed from the front page of the website.
The smiling woman has become the face of the Obamacare website as the reports in the media have focused on the site's technical failures for weeks.
The Image was replaced by a notice reminding website users of three other ways to sign up for Obamacare, including the telephone, in person, or by paper.
Healthcare.gov was also hit by technical failures on Sunday, which the Department of Health and Human Services blamed on the Verizon Terremark data hub center.
“Today, Terremark had a network failure that is impacting a number of their clients, including HealthCare.gov,” HHS spokesman Joanne Peters said.
“Secretary Sebelius spoke with the CEO of Verizon this afternoon to discuss the situation and they committed to fixing the problem as soon as possible,” Peters said.
