"There are things about South Carolina that fill me with despair -- one of them is that they managed to nominate Mark Sanford."

- A quip from Stephen Colbert (who prefaced the comment by saying that he loved his home state) as reported by Hotline On Call's Sarah Mimms. Mimms showed up to Monday night's private fundraiser for South Carolina congressional candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch held at B. Smith's restaurant in Union Station and wasn't asked for identification when she reached the door. At the party, she also picked out Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., in the crowd along with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga. The fundraiser was hosted by a handful of Democratic heavyweights including Tony and John Podesta. Colbert Busch goes up against former Gov. Mark Sanford in a special election May 7.
